Fall colors along Turtle Creek

Dear JD,

Can you feel the excitement building? We are just days away from our annual celebration of our beautiful Turtle Creek — our Gala and Tour of Homes! Once again, we're thrilled to host these spectacular back-to-back events, promising a weekend of elegance, connection, and philanthropy.

Gala Night Under the Stars

We look forward to seeing members, sponsors, and friends next Friday evening for our dazzling Gala, graciously presented by Teresa Byrd. Imagine yourself in your finest attire, mingling through the reception with a cocktail or glass of champagne in hand, and exploring our silent auction's treasures.

As the evening progresses, we will transition to the main ballroom, where our dynamic auctioneer, Mike Sadler of Heritage Auctions, will present an exciting array of exceptional items sure to inspire spirited bidding. Our goal is to raise an additional $70,000, and with your valued support, we are confident we can reach this milestone.

As you savor a sumptuous three-course dinner, we will take a moment to honor the remarkable individuals who make this night possible. And what better way to digest than by dancing to the tunes of the phenomenal Emerald City's Limelight band? Get ready for an evening of excitement and surprise!

Sunday Tour of Homes

The excitement continues on Sunday, October 20, from 1 to 4 p.m., with our Tour of Homes presented by The Urban Team, Ani Nosnic, and Kyle Crews. Prepare to be dazzled by five architectural gems from the neighborhood. Perfect weather is anticipated, making it ideal for exploring and appreciating our neighborhood’s unique charm.

Get ready for a weekend filled with fun, celebration, and giving back. Dust off your dancing shoes, get your bidding arm ready, and open your heart. Together, we'll create unforgettable memories, share plenty of laughter, and celebrate the vibrant life along Turtle Creek.

Warm regards,

Fire in the Woods, Stonebridge Clean-Up

and It's Pumpkin Season

Quick Response Averts Major Fire in Local Woods

On the afternoon of September 22, 2024, a potentially catastrophic fire broke out in the wooded area at the intersection of Hall Street and Turtle Creek Boulevard. Thanks to the swift action of the Dallas Fire Department, the blaze was extinguished before it could spread uncontrollably through the dense and dry underbrush, which is abundant with fallen branches and arid vegetation.

The origin of the fire was traced back to a homeless encampment within the woods. This location is known for its thick brush which provides cover, making it a common spot for such encampments. On August 27, Turtle Creek Association’s (TCA) vendor, Trash Freeway Waterways, first reported this encampment through the city’s 311 mobile app and then TCA leadership communicated the finding to the Turtle Creek Conservancy (TCC). Following proper permissions, the site was initially cleared by TCA.

However, by September 16, a larger encampment had been established at the same location. Once again, the situation was reported to both the city, and we looped TCC in on it. However, the presence of individuals at the site delayed immediate clearing operations.

The incident underscores the critical role of community vigilance. We owe our gratitude to TCA member Janet Watts, who promptly reported the fire, enabling the fire department to respond effectively. This event highlights the strength and importance of collaborative efforts among the TCA, TCC, city services, and our community members to maintain safety within our neighborhood.

Let’s continue to support each other and stay alert, ensuring Turtle Creek remains a safe and beautiful place for all.

Below are the pictures taken on September 16 that were used to report the encampment via the 311 app.

Proactive Measures Protect Turtle Creek

Thanks to your generous contributions, the Turtle Creek Association (TCA) continues to take proactive steps to maintain and protect our beloved waterway. A recent incident underscores the effectiveness of these efforts and the importance of your ongoing support.

A large tree stump, carried by the current, recently became lodged at the Stonebridge crossing along Turtle Creek. Such debris poses a risk of flooding by obstructing the water flow, becoming a gathering point for trash, making the area unsightly and potentially odorous.

While Dallas Water Utilities (DWU) typically intervenes only when debris blocks the water downstream—as observed with similar situations under the Lemmon Ave bridge—TCA is now taking a more vigilant approach. We believe in addressing such issues promptly to prevent any potential flooding and maintain the aesthetic and environmental integrity of the creek.

This task was not simple; the stump's size presented a significant challenge. However, our dedicated vendor, Trash Free Waterways, exemplified determination and tenacity, successfully removing the cumbersome obstruction. This action not only prevented potential problems but also preserved our creek's natural beauty and safety.

Your donations make this proactive care possible. Your support equips us to handle these challenges efficiently and effectively. We thank you for your continued commitment to keeping Turtle Creek a beautiful and safe environment for all.

Turtle Creek Corridor Dons Autumn Colors

As the crisp air of autumn settles in, the Turtle Creek Association (TCA) is excited to announce that our neighborhood is getting a seasonal makeover. Yesterday, our dedicated landscape vendors began the festive task of adorning the boulevard with vibrant fall decorations, ensuring that our community radiates the warm, welcoming spirit of the season.

In preparation for our much-anticipated annual Tour of Homes, TCA has also taken proactive steps to enhance the beauty of our surroundings. Recognizing the importance of first impressions, we have replaced dead or underperforming shrubs across the 25 medians managed by TCA. This timely revitalization ensures that every corner of the Turtle Creek Corridor is lush and inviting.

We hope the charming fall displays and refreshed greenery make your walks and drives along the corridor more enjoyable.
