Standing ovation for The Jimmys!

Dear Friends of the Arts,
|
|
Change is in the air. We bid a fond farewell to Patricia Lehnhardt, who is retiring after six years as our Gallery Manager. Patricia has curated so many exquisite exhibits, and we will miss her greatly. She has promised that she will still be very much around and involved in the Center.
Please stop by to meet our new Gallery Manager, Laura Primrose. Laura grew up in one of Galena's original bed and breakfasts after moving here from the Chicago area in the early 1970s. She's recently moved back with her husband, Avery Fullerton, after a 30-year career in elementary education in Washington, D.C. A lifelong enthusiastic supporter of and advocate for the arts, Laura looks forward to her role in "elevating and celebrating" the rich and diverse arts offerings in the Galena region, and is thrilled to be the new Gallery Manager at the Galena Center for the Arts.

We have new leadership as well. We welcome Megan Gloss, Colin Sanderson and Denise Spielman to our Board of Directors, and feel very grateful to our retiring Board Members, Debbie Bertucci, Stephanie Bussan and Jan Lavacek, for all they have done for the Center for many years.
We began our new fiscal year on June 1, and of course that means we are preparing our letters to encourage you to renew your memberships, and to encourage friends to become members as well. We are so happy to be able to begin programming in our new building, and look forward to seeing you regularly.
Thanks for being a part of this artistic journey!

It’s time to renew your membership!
Did you know you can become a member,
or renew your membership, online?

membership program.
|
|
We are thrilled that we now have over 500 members, and are eager to expand our programming so that we can offer something for everyone! We ask for no funding from the City of Galena, but instead count on our local and regional friends to support the important work we do, through memberships and donations. It makes a difference.
The Arts benefit education; the Arts benefit the economy; and the Arts offer a richer life for all of us. Please be generous with your membership and added donations, so that we can complete the construction in our beautiful new venue, and get all programming back on track.
|
|
Time to get involved! We still need greeters for the gallery, and volunteers to help with serving at openings, ushering at music and theatre events, garden maintenance, painting, and more!
If you would like to help out as a greeter, please go to
Signupgenius.com and choose the dates you would like to help. It’s not hard, and it’s so much fun to meet other art lovers, and show off our wonderful new space. For other volunteer opportunities, email Carole.
Thanks so much!

We have a new phone number!! Our old number (still functional till July 21) was perhaps the least memorizable number in the universe, so we now have one (starting July 7) that is a little easier, and at least has an 815 area code.
815-402-3111
We may not always be there to answer the phone, but feel free to leave messages, and we promise to return your calls.
Even more exciting, the floor tile is finished in the performance space lobby and new bathrooms, and the DOORS are finally here! We’ll be hanging 27 doors in the next few weeks. Whew! Lots of work, but it’s progress!

The Galena Center for the Arts is fortunate to have Courtney Lomax-Moser’s framing studio and business, Galena Custom Framing, on location. Courtney is a native Galenian who grew up on a farm in rural Galena. She and her husband, Tom, together with their children, work and live on their combined family cattle farms.
|
|
Courtney’s interest in framing came about after years of having items framed by Jim and Tom Winter at the Frame Shop on Galena’s Main Street. When the Frame Shop ultimately closed, Courtney found she was ready to dive into this creative outlet and begin a framing business of her own. Serendipitously, a studio became available at the Galena Center for the Arts at the same time about 5 years ago. She now enjoys the community of artists surrounding her studio space at the new Arts Center on Gear Street. Courtney is open to framing most anything and has even framed unusual items such as an actual piece of the Wheel of Fortune “pie” spinner, signed by Pat Sajak. Seeing her customer’s reactions when the product is complete brings Courtney great pleasure.
|
|
While Courtney is looking to establishing regular hours again
soon, she welcomes an opportunity to meet you by appointment.

We were thrilled to have an opening reception for the aptly titled exhibit, Emergence, and to see so many of our friends and members there. You can still view the exhibit through July.

It was such a joy to hear the music from the Juliani Ensemble, not once but twice. What a treat!
|
|
La Fete de la Musique did not disappoint, except with the excitement that a break in the city water main brings. It takes more than a little flood to stop the music! Here are just a few shots from our open mic.

The Jimmys Concert was a blast, and everyone loved it. Many thanks to Tom Saccomanno and Julie Bruser for making it happen.

In our beautiful new space, we have just one studio available to rent. A dedicated room to gather all your supplies and display your inspirations may be just the thing to create your own special artwork or writing. Join a group of likeminded artists and interact with the public during gallery hours, or find a quiet time away from distractions at home. A room of one’s own may be just what you need to spark creativity.
the space and discuss the possibilities.

Gardening Workday
We were grateful to have Dan Harms lead our volunteers, pulling thistles and trimming around the outside of the Center, just in time to make it look good for our June Songwriters Showcase.
We accomplished our goals for our first outdoor workday, and hope to hit it once or twice more this summer.
