Russell Weedman learned to love art at a young age; his father was a painter and sculptor. He continued this interest in college, graduating from Center College in 1985 with a B.A. and from Stony Brook University in 1989 with a M.F.A. in painting and drawing. Russell is now a professor and department chair at University of the Cumberlands. He teaches painting, drawing, printmaking, and art history.
Russell uses a combination of acrylic and oil to get the unique, organic feel of his painting. He starts in a sketch book and builds the painting off of several different images he has created. He likes to explore the co-existence of man and nature; particularly the similarities and differences between the human form and shapes found in nature.
