Broward Health Medical Center First in South Florida to Receive Joint Commission Advanced Certification in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

Broward Health Medical Center has received the Advanced Certification in Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) from The Joint Commission, becoming the first hospital in South Florida to receive this accreditation. The Joint Commission's Advanced Certification for CABG recognizes hospitals that demonstrate exceptional patient and family-centered care and optimize the quality of life for patients with serious illnesses.

"In 1958, Broward Health Medical Center used the first electrocardiogram machine in Broward County, one of only two in the state of Florida. Broward Health had the foresight to start an extensive cardiac care program at a time when very few hospitals did so," said Kenneth Herskowitz, MD, medical director of cardiovascular surgery and program director of disease specific certification for CABG at Broward Health Medical Center. "Now, in 2013, The Joint Commission has added its accolades to this unique program that improves the lives of Broward Health patients."
