PrimeHealth Physicians, LLC Collaborates With Cigna to Improve Health and Lower Costs in South Florida


Cigna has launched a collaborative care initiative with PrimeHealth Physicians, LLC that aims to improve patient access to health care, enhance care coordination, and achieve the goal of improved health, affordability and patient experience. With the launch of this initiative, which became effective July 1, Cigna now has eight collaborative care arrangements throughout Florida, with four in South Florida. Miami based PrimeHealth Physicians is the first independent medical group in South Florida to join the collaborative.


Cigna Collaborative Care is the company's approach to accomplishing the same population health goals as accountable care organizations, or ACOs. The arrangement with PrimeHealth Physicians will benefit more than 5,300 individuals covered by a Cigna health plan who receive care from 45 doctors at PrimeHealth Physicians.

MDLIVE leads state in venture funding in 2nd quarter

MDLIVE, a Sunrise-based telehealth company that has been on a growth tear, raised the most venture capital in the state in the second quarter, according to the MoneyTree Report released Friday <7.17.15>.


MDLIVE, with more than 200 employees, provides access to virtual doctor visits utilizing partnerships with established industry leaders, including Walgreens, Microsoft and major health systems across the country. The company raised $50 million from Bedford Funding Capital Management, a private equity firm based in White Plains, N.Y.

PCP Joins Baptist Health Medical Group


Primary care physician Angel Javier Rodriguez, MD, has joined Baptist Health Medical Group, an organization of more than 180 physicians, as part of the Baptist Health primary care team.


Scripps scientists awarded $2.8M for HIV research

A team of scientists from the Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter received $2.8 million in grants to develop an HIV treatment.


Scripps associate professor Susana Valente is the principal investor on the study, which won funding from the National Institutes of Health. She hopes to develop a therapeutic agent that reduces latent levels of HIV that hide from the immune system.
