Larkin to Participate in National Center for Trauma-Informed Care Initiative

South Miami based Larkin Community Hospital (LCH), one of Florida's twelve statutory teaching hospitals and the largest osteopathic teaching hospital in the nation, has been selected as one of five organizations nation-wide to participate in the National Center for Trauma-Informed Care (NCTIC) initiative sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA). This is a Pilot Hybrid and Onsite-Technical Assistance program from NCTIC-Virtual Learning Network, which focuses on successful implementation of Trauma-Informed Practices in government organizations, hospital health systems, and service systems.

"We are proud to be part of NCTIC's VLN program, and continue to be committed to providing innovative care to all patients and engaging them in ways that bring about the best results," says Sandy Sosa-Guerrero, CEO of Larkin Community Hospital.

Holy Cross Hospital is the First in Broward County to Implant Reveal LINQ™ Miniature Cardiac Monitor

Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale is the first in Broward County to implant the Medtronic Reveal LINQ™ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) System in a patient, the smallest implantable cardiac monitoring device available.

The Reveal LINQ ICM is approximately one-third the size of a AAA battery, making it more than 80 percent smaller than other ICMs. While significantly smaller, the device is part of a powerful system that allows physicians to continuously and wirelessly monitor a patient's heart for up to three years, with 20 percent more data memory than its larger predecessor, Reveal´┐Ż XT.

Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist Rishi Anand, MD, who serves as the Medical Director for the Electrophysiology department at Holy Cross Hospital, performed the surgery on Austin Stuart, a 67-year old man from Wilton Manors, Florida, on March 6.

Baptist Health South Florida hired Dr. Bernie Fernandez, the former President of Cleveland Clinic Florida, to lead its physician group.

In January, Cleveland Clinic Florida named Jamal A. Ghani its Chief Executive Administrative Officer. At that time, the organization said Fernandez would remain president of its hospital in Weston and they would work together.

Now Fernandez has joined Miami-based Baptist Health as CEO of Baptist Health Medical Group, which has over 140 physicians in 29 locations and is expected to expand.
