Delray Medical Center to Open Emergency Center in Lake Worth
In just a few weeks, a new type of emergency care will arrive in Lake Worth as Delray Medical Center prepares to open the area's first stand-alone Emergency Center.
Designed for minimal wait times in a warm, home-like environment, the Emergency Center is an extension of Delray Medical Center's Emergency Department and will offer the same high-quality treatment and diagnostic services in an easy-access location.
Slated to open in May, the Emergency Center will be staffed by board-certified emergency room physicians and specially trained clinicians. It will be equipped to handle serious conditions, such as lacerations, orthopedic and sports injuries, dehydration, abdominal pain, respiratory problems, head injuries, strokes and heart attacks. Additionally, the center will feature dedicated rooms for bariatrics, behavioral health, OB/GYN and trauma patients.

SFHEF holds Annual Case Competition
The South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum (SFHEF) held its annual Case Competition on Saturday April 9, 2016 at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale. The competition is regarded a best practice by both ACHE and AUPHA. This is due to their model of partnering the student teams with a senior level executive in the field of the case study.
Undergraduate and Graduate Teams from Florida International University, Florida Atlantic University and Barry University competed in front of a live audience at the Sister Innocent Conference Center Auditorium. Performances were judged by a panel of seasoned healthcare executives. The judges were:
  • Angela Burrafato, MD, MSHA, Medical Director of South Florida, Aetna
  • Mark R. Dissette, MBA, Senior Vice President & Administrator, Holy Cross HealthPlex.
  • Diana Salinas, Esq., CHC, Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer, Mount Sinai Medical Center
At the graduate level the first place winner was FIU's HCMBA, Second place went to Barry University, third place Florida Atlantic University. Congratulations to the teams. Meanwhile, at the undergraduate level the first place winner was Florida Atlantic University, second place goes to Florida International University. Congratulations to the undergraduate teams.
"Every year the presentations, business plans and insight from the students are absolutely mind-boggling. Our kudos to the students and their supporting faculty," stated SFHEF Case Competition Chair Barbara Perez Deppman.
