McGill-Toolen 38, Faith Academy 0

Kevin Daughtry ran for 230 yards and two touchdowns, and Dylan Brown added two more rushing scores in the win.

Daughtry scored on runs of 35 and 53 yards in the first half. Bo Miller’s 11-yard TD pass to Kaden Thrash, who made a twisting, one-handed grab in the end zone gave the Yellow Jackets a 21-0 lead at the break.

Brown scored on runs of 16 and 41 yards in the second half, and Ollie Poiroux finished the scoring with a 32-yard field goal in the final minute.

UMS-Wright 42, Houston Academy 14

Scott finished with 6 receptions for 131 yards and 11 rushes for 66 yards.

WHAT THE COACH IS SAYING

“After a productive bye week, we are excited to get back on the field and continue region play. Thursday night's game will give us an opportunity to continue to chase the region title and test our ability to go on the road and play well against a quality opponent. We are looking forward to the challenge.” - McGill-Toolen head coach David Faulkner

WHAT THE MEDIA IS SAYING

“McGill-Toolen is one of 3 teams in Class AA that are still undefeated, and the Jackets should be in good shape to improve to 4-0 in region play this week if the running game continues to shine as it has done all season. No one on the Gulf Coast has the backfield attack like the Jackets and if the weather plays a part Thursday night, the Jackets ground game should still cause big problems for Houston Academy.”  – Pigskin Pete, WNSP-FM

COACH’S KEYS TO VICTORY

Coach Faulkner breaks down tonight’s game.

OFFENSE:

1. Limit penalties: Must play clean on the road. We cannot afford operational errors that lead to pre-snap penalties

2. Get wide receivers involved early and often

3. As always, no turnovers and win first and third downs

DEFENSE:

1. Eleven hats to the ball: Must pursue the ball and get as many defenders involved as possible

2. Create turnovers: Need takeaways

3. Limit opponents big plays: Can't give up explosive plays

SPECIAL TEAMS:

1. Win the field position battle: Create positive field position through the kicking game

2. Score on special teams: Kick returns / field goals / extra points - every point matters

3. Elite coverage on cover teams: Limit opponents return yards

DAUGHTRY ON A TEAR

Daughtry averaged 15 yards a carry against Faith, finishing with 230 yards on 13 carries. He now has a team-high 610 rushing yards on the season through five games. That’s an eye-popping 122 rushing yards a game.

THRASH A PRIMARY TARGET

Five of McT’s six passes completed against Faith went to Kaden Thrash, who finished with 47 receiving yards. The senior leads the catches (14) and receiving yards (121) and caught his first touchdown of the season against Faith.
