The McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets return to The Lip on Friday night when they host Blount High School.

McT (4-4, 3-3 in 6A Region 1) hosts the Blount Leopards (1-7, 1-5) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27. This is a Class 6A Region 1 game.

The Jackets lead the series 17-7, and McT won last year’s meeting 45-18.


LAST MEETING

Tre Inge rushed for 114 yards and three scores to lead McT over Blount. Receiver Anthony Eager caught five passes for 140 yards and two scores, while quarterback Andrew Murchison completed 11 of 17 for 214 yards.

McGill-Toolen vs. Theodore

Navontay Richardson rushed for 264 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries to lead Class 6A No. 10 Theodore past McGill-Toolen 42-7 at C.A. Douglas field.

The Jackets managed just 211 yards of total offense.


Blount vs. St. Paul’s

Anthony “Tank” Jones scored his team’s first TD of the night and also had four sacks on defense as the Saints shut out Blount 21-0 on the road. The St. Paul’s defense allowed just 118 yards of total offense.

HOMECOMING FESTIVITES

To celebrate homecoming, all alumni are invited to join us for hamburgers and hot dogs under the tent in the baseball section of the LIP at 5:30 p.m.

In addition, we are very excited to honor McT Football alum Tony Ezall, who is being inducted to the McGill-Toolen Hall of Fame.

 

Tony was the SGA President, a member of the National Honor Society, and played basketball. Tony broke records on football field as a quarterback and went on to be a three-year, record-setting starter for Florida A&M. 

 

Today, Tony serves as President North America and EVP Chief Marketing Officer of Becton, Dickinson and Company), one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world.  


A COUPLE OF WORKHORSES

Jack Lenaghan’s 16 carries for 44 yards last week gave 100 carries for the season. The sophomore has rushed for 462 yards on the year. His teammate, freshman Ladarien Miller, on the other hand, has 109 carries for 556 yards. Of the team’s 265 rushing attempts this season, the duo has combined for 209 of them.


BEND TO OUR WILL

Senior tight end Will Miles’ 6-yards touchdown catch against Theodore last week was not only his first score of the season, but it also marked the senior’s 10th reception of the year.


MURCH HITS THE 1,000-YARD MARK

Quarterback Andrew Murchison threw for 114 yards last week on 14 of 24 passing. With that, the junior eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the season. He has completed 56 percent of his passes for 1,090 yards.

Each McGill-Toolen football game is broadcast over the airwaves on Archangel Radio 1410-AM. Tune in at 6:30 p.m. for the pregame show, 7 p.m. for play-by-play of the game and a post-game wrap-up show.

• Blount set a school record earlier this month with the most points given up in school history in its 59-20 loss to Saraland.


• McT has scored 202 points this season, an average of 25.25 per game. In the history of McT football, the Jackets are 183-29 in games in which they score more than 20 points. Conversely, Blount is 30-90 when giving up more than 20 points in a game.


• All 6 receivers who have caught a pass for the Jackets this season have more than 100 yards receiving. Rosco Haywood (300 yards), Rev Zuniga (249), Tylan Stanton (210), Ladarien Miller (120), Will Miles (109), and Jack Lenaghan (102)


• Blount is averaging 9.875 points per game this season, while giving up 28.25 points to opponents.


THE EXTRA POINT

Former McGill-Toolen linebacker Carlton Martial was named Sun Belt Conference Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2022-23 season at the Sun Belt Honors Banquet in Atlanta on Tuesday.


Martial finished his career at Troy as the all-time FBS leader in tackles with 578. He was a four-time first-team All-Sun Belt selection and was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2022, when he helped the Trojans to a 12-2 record and the conference championship.
