Program Impact

From sports clinics and after-school sessions to leadership opportunities and playground fun, BAWSI made an impact on 1,495 athletes fall semester, and the momentum is only growing.

BAWSI Girls Game Day Fun

For many of the 311 girls who participated, stepping onto a college campus for the very first time made BAWSI's Game Day Field Trips at Santa Clara University and San Jose State University an unforgettable experience. After honing their agility, strength, shooting, and passing skills on the court, they got to witness the thrill of college women's basketball up close, bringing the energy of the clinic straight into the stands.

Middle School Takes Flag Football by STORM

Leading up to the Super Bowl, BAWSI partnered with Play Like a Girl and Golden Gate Storm to bring flag football to girls at Ocala Middle School.

Before taking the field, students heard directly from women whose careers were shaped by sports. Dr. Dana Weintraub, BAWSI CEO and pediatrician; Tegan McGrady, professional soccer player and BAWSI Athlete Leader Coach; and Morgan Lewis, Golden Gate Storm player and SJSU engineering graduate, shared how the lessons they learned through sports prepared them for leadership in their professional lives. The event introduced girls to flag football while showing them firsthand how the skills gained on the field can open doors far beyond it. 🏈✨

From BAWSI Playgrounds to NWSL Championship

W.C. Overfelt Girls Soccer Team were hosted by Nike and JD Sports to meet Angel City player Madison Hammond and attend the NWSL Fan Fest and Championship match.

18 of the 25 players on Overfelt’s team began their journey with BAWSI in elementary or middle school - when we get girls in the game, they stay in the game.

BAWSI Rollers Opens Doors to Play

At a recent BAWSI Rollers session at Children’s Health of Northern California (CHoNC), a young athlete experienced the outdoors for the first time. Joining the group in his wheelchair, his eyes fixed on the sky, he seemed mesmerized by the clouds, foliage, flowers, and the encouraging voices of coaches around him. Moments like this capture the heart of BAWSI Rollers. On this particular day, it meant quite literally opening the door for a child to move, play, and enjoy the outdoors with joy and wonder.
