The GammaSAID Council hosted their most successful webinar to date, Women in the Workplace. We welcomed new Sustaining Partner, The International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. Spotlight: Scottsdale Chapter
|
Last month, the GIS Scottsdale Alumni Chapter and Kappa Chapter members from Arizona State University attended a local spring training baseball game in Scottsdale, AZ. Students and alumni were able to network and enjoy the game, Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Chicago White Sox. Great work, Scottsdale Alumni, for hosting such a fun event!

Recently, the NYC Alumni Chapter hosted a March Madness Happy Hour, with a great turnout of alumni from different colleges and universities!

The Los Angeles Alumni Chapter recently hosted a Meet & Greet at the Center for Insurance Studies 20 Year Reunion Event, where they connected and networked with the Beta Gamma Chapter at California State University Fullerton!

Spotlight: Atlanta Chapter

The Atlanta Alumni Chapter recently teamed up with Young Risk Professionals and the Zeta Chapter at Georgia State University to host a professional-student mixer at the Atlanta Fish Market in Buckhead!

Last month, members of the Sigma Chapter from Temple University helped provide a warm home-cooked meal for guests at Gift of Life Family House, a non-profit organization that provides a safe place to stay for transplant patients and their families! Way to give back, Sigma Chapter!

Spotlight: Alpha Lambda Chapter

Recently, the Alpha Lambda Chapter from Missouri State University traveled to St. Louis to meet with companies including Aon, CNA, Marsh & McLennan, FM Global, and JW Terrill. Our students had a great time networking and learning! Alpha Lambda is taking advantage of all the insurance industry has to offer!

Last month, the Beta Mu Chapter at the University of Colorado Denver partnered with a local pizza place to host a fundraising event for their chapter. They raised over $700 to go towards educational opportunities for their chapter! Congratulations, Beta Mu!

Spotlight: Beta Omega Chapter
|
Ohio Dominican University and the Beta Omega Chapter are making waves in the insurance industry through the Risk Management Technician Pathway program, an initiative that allows local high school students to take online classes, where they learn about risk management and insurance to earn college credit. Kudos to ODU, The Institutes, Motorists Insurance Group, and GIS Advisor and Director of RMI Carol Blaine, who helped create the program!

Earlier this month, the Chi Chapter at Drake University hosted their annual Drake Symposium on Innovation and Insurance. With speakers from Society of Actuaries, Casualty Actuarial Society, and Travelers, to name just a few, and with Gamma chapters from all over the country in attendance, the symposium was a great success! Congratulations to the Chi Chapter for another successful symposium. We look forward to next year!

Last month, the Kappa Chapter at Arizona State University hosted the WSIA Risky Business Symposium. The symposium boasted a great turnout from many Gamma Iota Sigma chapters, including University of Texas at Dallas, New Mexico State University, and more! Special thanks to the Kappa Chapter for hosting, and to Sustaining Partner WSIA for another incredible symposium.

Spotlight: Alpha Iota Chapter

Last month, the Alpha Iota Chapter from St. John's University partnered with the New York Young Insurance Professionals to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island, by preparing dinner for the residents there. Great work, Alpha Iota!

The Beta Phi Chapter from the University of Texas at Dallas is at it again. Recently, members of their chapter spent time packing lunches for distribution to those in need. We love seeing chapters give back to their community!

Last month, the Nu Chapter at Central Michigan University hosted their second annual Detroit ShowCASE. Attendees fr
om the Beta, Upsilon, and Alpha Alpha chapters braved the weather to be immersed in the culture, arts, sports, and eats of Detroit, MI. They visited the Detroit Historical Museum, toured the Quicken Loans office, visited an aquarium, and more! Our Gamma students had a great time! Well done, Nu Chapter!

Staff Spotlight: Meet the Grand Chapter
|
|
Sharla is Gamma Iota Sigma’s Director of Development and Strategic Initiatives. She has been with GIS since 2011 and took time in 2014-16 to open an art gallery and clothing boutique in Philadelphia. She enjoys developing innovative programming and engaging GIS Sustaining Partners, sponsors, and the industry at large in support of the next generation of talent. Her relationship with GIS stems from her time working with Noelle at ACE (now Chubb), where Sharla managed the global corporate foundation for 5 years. Sharla graduated from Mount Holyoke College in May 2001 with a degree in International Relations and Art History. She grew up in Brazil, Mexico, and Miami, speaks several languages, loves to travel and explore new cultures, and is passionate about championing diversity. Sharla lives outside of Philadelphia and enjoys spending time outdoors with her two young daughters.
