Insurance Innovators Launch
|
We are excited to announce the launch of the Insurance Innovators series, presented by the
Insurance Industry Resource Council (IIRC) and the Ohio Insurance Institute.
The first video in the series features Mike LaRocco, President and CEO of State Auto Insurance Companies, as he explains what innovation and disruption in insurance means to him while speaking at the Gamma Iota Sigma Ohio Regional Conference in Columbus, OH.

High School Actuarial Day
|
Do you know a high school student interested in making a career out of math? High School Actuarial Day will take place April 18 at DePaul University in Chicago. Students will learn from actuaries, compete for prizes, enjoy lunch, and more! This event is completely FREE!

Recap: WSIA's Extreme Risk Takers Symposium

Last weekend, many of Gamma Iota Sigma's Chapters attended the WSIA Extreme Risk Takers Symposium in Chicago, IL, hosted by Illinois State University's Katie School of Insurance and GIS's Alpha Kappa Chapter. The Deductible Dash is a student-organized charity 5K, and casual networking opportunity, established by the Saint Joseph's University Alpha Omega Chapter. All proceeds for the event go to the IICF. Registration cost includes refreshments, a t-shirt, and all day admission to the zoo.

Spotlight: Gamma Beta Chapter
|
On March 1st, our Gamma Beta Chapter, along with the University of Akron's RMI Program, sponsored "Risky Business," a speed networking-style event with students and insurance professionals. All students of all majors were invited to participate and learn more about the insurance industry and Gamma Iota Sigma. With 65 Akron students in attendance, the event went so well that Gamma Beta plans to host it again in the Fall!

Over Spring Break, members of the Rho Chapter traveled to London with Appalachian State University's International Insurance Markets Class. They had a great time visiting Tower Bridge, taking a boat tour and riding the London Eye, to name just a few!
|

Spotlight: Beta Phi Chapter
|
The Beta Phi Chapter has been busy this month! From coordinating a bake sale for charity, to inviting speakers from State Farm and JP Morgan Chase, to hosting an Expert Panel Presentation with experts from Markel, AmWins, The Hartford, and AIG, Beta Phi is making waves and taking advantage of all that the insurance industry has to offer!

Spotlight: Alpha Alpha Chapter
|
Last month, the Alpha Alpha Chapter at Olivet College took six students to Maplewood of Marshall Assisted Living Center to play board games and card games with the senior citizens that reside there. Both students and senior citizens had a great time!

Spotlight: Richmond Chapter

Recently, the Richmond Alumni Chapter hosted a Happy Hour at Postbellum in Richmond, VA. They had a great group of GIS alumni and young insurance professionals from multiple schools, including Appalachian State University and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Spotlight: Hartford Chapter
|
Last month, the Hartford Alumni Chapter hosted a Happy Hour at Pig Eye's Pub in Hartford, CT. Alumni representing five different schools came out to network and meet other young professionals in their city!

In February, the Dallas Alumni Chapter hosted a Happy Hour, encouraging members to invite co-workers and clients. They had a great turnout, with many new faces!

Spotlight: Scottsdale Chapter
|
Sustaining Partner WSIA recently featured GIS Alum Traci Smith in their Winter Newsletter. Traci, an Account Specialist with Markel Assurance, graduated from Appalachian State University in North Carolina in 2016, and currently serves as the Regional Director of Gamma Iota Sigma's Scottsdale Alumni Chapter.

Spotlight: Chicago Chapter
|
Recently, the Chicago alumni chapter and Insurance Associates co-hosted a Happy Hour and Fundraiser at The Kerryman Irish Bar. They raised money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation, and donors were entered into a drawing to win a gift card. Thanks to those who came out for a good cause!

|
Last month, NYC Alumni Chapter members Tom Fiorillo with Willis Towers Watson and Anthony Lucero with Mercer, presented a VBA Workshop to Alpha Iota Chapter members at St. John's University as part of their Technical Skills Series. We love seeing alumni mentoring and teaching our students!

Spotlight: Lansing Chapter
|
Last Saturday, the Lansing Alumni Chapter hosted a volunteering event at the Greater Lansing Food Bank, with an incredible turnout from industry professionals, students from Olivet College and Central Michigan University, and local high school students interested in a career in insurance! They sorted and boxed 6,480 lbs. of frozen food for distribution to families in need!

Students, Risks - An Open Access Risk Management Journal from MDPI, is seeking student research contributions related to insurance, actuarial science, and risk management. Staff Spotlight: Meet the Grand Chapter
|
|
Hannah is the Chapter Services and Event Coordinator at Gamma Iota Sigma. She has been with Gamma Iota Sigma since September 2017. Hannah graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in May 2014. She has a background in event planning and coordination, as well as student engagement. Hannah lives in Asheville, North Carolina with her husband, Cody, and chihuahua, Novi. She enjoys hiking, visiting waterfalls, and trying new restaurants!
