Dumped at a kill shelter!
Garbage dogs! That is how these sweet and innocent dogs were treated...like garbage-- carelessly discarded and never given a second thought. Each faced death, the tragic fate that befalls thousands of companion dogs across the country. The only difference for these dogs is that they crossed our path at Save-A-Pet.

Safe with us!
Twinkie and Cupcake are two 10 year old Mini Poodle mixes full of life, love...and heart-worm disease. Twinkie also has bi-lateral oral/nasal fistulas, a painful condition that was caused because her owners let her upper teeth to rot, leaving a hole that bore its way up through her sinus cavity and back down to the other side where another rotten tooth once rooted. Forced death came to claim Twinkie and Cupcake this summer. They were discarded, deemed useless when their owners decided it was time to "trade" them into a kill shelter in Louisiana so they could purchase a new puppy...until they crossed our path! Twinkie and Cupcake got a miracle "stay of execution" and were both treated for their heart-worm disease. Now, they are in a loving home where they will never suffer at the hands of selfishness and cruelty again. When Twinkie recovers she will get surgery to repair her mouth. Two lives forever changed thanks to your support!

Vladimir
Vladimir is the epitome of love and affection. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. But he has heart-worm, which deemed him a "death row inmate" in rural Mississippi, an un-adoptable dead dog walking...until he

crossed our path. At less than two years old, this boy just wants to play with toys, give love and shower people with adoration. He doesn't dwell on the selfish humans that let him down. Vladimir lives for today.
In September, he came to Save-A-Pet. By October he was neutered and began his heart worm treatment. He has learned his  obedience like a star.  This Thanksgiving, our boy Vlad is in a loving home of his own-- with feathered friends!

Our little June!
June is a sweet, young Beagle mix that is truly nothing but 4-legged love personified. She, too, was sentenced to death in Mississippi... until she crossed our path! Save-A-Pet intercepted her tragic walk down the Green Mile. June also has heart-worm disease but has already begun treatment. She is a favorite of the volunteers at Save-A-Pet not just because she is so easy to walk, obeys every command and is adorable. She just wants to be loved, and her light shines on and in all of us. June says Thank you!

Peach! What can we say about Peach and her little  Peach Pits ? This is a family...a family of seven that was slated for death in rural Georgia... until they crossed our path. The whole family was riddled with whip-worm, hook-worm, round-worm, coccidia and giardia. And to top it off,
Peach and her pups
Momma Peach had heart-worm as well. The puppies were extremely malnourished from parasites and were at death's door. The parasites had literally sucked the life out of them.
Through the diligence and commitment from volunteers and staff at Save-A-Pet, they all survived.
Adopt Peach!
All the puppies were adopted to wonderful homes. Peach is still with us and is being treated for heart-worm.  Peach is now spayed! She is such a lovable girl, it is unfathomable to us that she was set to die with all her babies. But that is behind them all now...

Hobo is his name, and surviving in Mississippi was his game. He belonged to everyone and no one at the same time. His good-natured personality made him a

lovable local. Wandering in the neighborhood almost made him another statistic, however, when he wound up at a county shelter. His heart-worm disease deemed him unworthy, unlovable and un-adoptable...until he crossed our path. Now Hobo is in a home of his very own! He is being treated at Save-A-Pet for his heart-worm and is a hobo no more. Hobo is someone's everything now. He loves to cuddle with his new fur brother(the white guy on the left)!

Heart-worm disease is an expensive disease to treat, and dogs left untreated can suffer slow, painful deaths. We are grateful to be able to save so many of these special animals that cross our paths. We give them a second chance at a REAL life, a life they so desperately deserve.  Lives that would be otherwise cut short due to human ignorance and plain selfishness.

But the truth is, these dogs would not be on this earth today if it wasn't for our supporters. YOU save their lives. We are the conduit between life and death.  Together, we save over 1,000 lives a year!  That is something we should all be proud of.  Sadly, there are always others waiting...waiting to cross our path.  Garbage doesn't come with four legs. We are reaching out to you to help us turn these worthy lives from invisible to invincible...

Save-A-Pet is a non profit 501c3 organization that depends on donors to keep the animals and our mission alive.  Every dollar makes a difference. Won't you join us in our journey to save lives?  After all...cruelty never rests...and so, neither do we!

Wishing you and your furry friends a very Blessed & Happy Thanksgiving!
