|
What an exciting first month it has been as we welcomed our Class of 2028 to Garces! We have 133 new freshmen on campus and 18 transfers from other high schools that moved to Garces this Fall. All are finding their place here at Garces, through academic and extracurricular programs, one of our pathways, athletics.
Next Thursday, we will hold our annual Club Day. Please encourage your students to find a club or clubs that pique their interest. There is something for everyone and it is a great way to get to know others with similar interests.
We want every one of our students to feel like they belong and are a part of the Garces family. A happy student is a productive student, in and outside of the classroom.
In the coming weeks, we will begin our outreach to future Rams. We will have several events and activities where we will invite 8th graders and their families from throughout our community to experience what life will be like as a member of the Garces family. Some of your students may be involved as school ambassadors, or as we like to call them, our Rambassadors. The best example of what a future at Garces will look like is evident in our students. What better way to promote our great school than through our students and their families.
This year we would like to add opportunities for prospective families to learn more about Garces through smaller and more intimate neighborhood gatherings. This is a wonderful way for our current families to share their Garces experience with friends and neighbors. Together with some of the school's representatives, we will answer questions about the positive and nurturing environment provided for our students, the programs offered, both academic and extra-curricular, and the application process. If you are interested in hosting such a gathering, please email me at tabbott@garces.org or call me at 661-327-2578 ext. 118.
Finally, we know for both students and families new to Garces it can be overwhelming sometimes trying to navigate through the first couple of months. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have and or point you in the right direction. That's what family is for right?.

Parent Service Involvement Program
By now all families should have received information about the Parent Service Involvement Program. Utilizing the MobileServe app, you can log all of your hours and find opportunities to help the school. Not all volunteer opportunities are going to be listed on the app. Those listed are areas the school has identified as immediate needs. From time to time, we will be adding other events and activities where volunteers will be needed. Keep in mind things you do or donate for a specific program or team can be counted as volunteer hours. For example, helping set up for a team dinner, building sets for a play, providing snacks for students working on Homecoming skits. Purchasing supplies for a student club or program. Helping as a parent club member, or committee member on one of our planning committees. Monetary donations are calculated at $20 per hour.
Parents receiving tuition assistance use the code: 0DB72E GMHS: FA
Parents not receiving assistance use the code: 662629 GMHS: PSI

Community Service Fair
Today Garces hosted a number of local non profit organizations in our gym to give our juniors an opportunity to learn more about the different groups and those they serve. Juniors learned about a lot of ways they can earn their hours over the course of this year. As juniors, their service requirement is volunteering out in the greater community.
Contact Mrs. Zasoski with questions about the Service Learning Program. Email kzasoski@garces.org.

Starting on Monday, September 9th through October 2nd, we will have a number of college admissions representatives on our campus. These visits offer students a great opportunity to meet with the representatives, learn about campus life, majors, financial aid and more.
Students have been instructed that they must first register via Naviance Student and must receive prior consent from their teacher to miss class.
These meetings will take place in the Learning Center.
