Ramchella Success

Garces Memorial hosted the inaugural Ramchella, a visual and performing arts showcase on Friday, Oct. 13.

And it was a rousing success.

From the farmer's market put on by our FFA chapter, to the art exhibit in the gym and the numerous stage performances by our students, it was a wonderful evening that was rocking well into the night thanks to Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Rossi and the countless other that helped make the night a success.

Latina Leaders

Latina Leaders have had an eventful few weeks celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. They closed out the month with selling pan dulce and agua frescas. They now prepare for Día de Los Muertos and look to create a large ofrenda in the quad for the entire Garces school community. Dia de Los Muertos is a cultural holiday to celebrate a deceased loved one. The Garces community is encouraged to bring a picture of deceased loved one to put on the ofrenda. Latina Leaders will be at the front drop off area in the mornings or you can drop it off to Señora Edwards. Join us in celebrating all of our loved ones who have passed on before us. The Latina Leaders will also be attending the Dia de Los Muertos celebration at the famous historic Union Cemetery on Nov. 1. Latina Leaders will enter the ofrenda contest and participate in the Garces Memorial booth. Club moderator is Mrs. Edwards. Please contact her at sedwards@garces.org.

Shadow Days and Ram for a Day

We've added yet another day to our list of Shadow Days here at Garces Memorial. The Admissions Office invites current 8th grade students or high school students looking to transfer to Garces to spend a day with a current Garces student. Because of the popularity of the Shadow Days we have added another date in November. Click here to sign up.

Ram for a Day is a fun day for all 8th graders from our community. Our 8th grade guests will be treated to a day of demonstrations, scavenger hunt, Garces trivia, tours, a "Future Ram" t-shirt and lunch. Parents can also attend and take a tour of the campus and learn more from our administrative team on our mission and holistic approach to their student's education. You must register in advance so please don't wait!

FFA News

Our Garces FFA chapter has been up to some big things this past month! We are so proud of

our chapter and the many talents and skills our members demonstrate. From public speaking, to dancing, to entrepreneurship, our members are leaders in and outside of the barn.

Our freshman had the opportunity to attend the Greenhand Leadership Conference at the Kern

Agricultural Pavilion. During the conference, the Greenhands learned important leadership skills and how to better our chapter as a whole. This included breaking out into small groups, performing games, etc. We even had three of our own members win the group leader award.

Congratulations to Gia Wattenbarger, Ashby Lane and Esiahs Chavez! We are excited to see how our Greenhands continue to grow and flourish over the next four years!

This year’s first Ramchella showcased our member’s many talents— and we are impressed! Some of our participants included Leila and Kaiya Wilson with a duo dance routine, Lilly Tracy and Emma Mebane with an art piece and Frank Fanucchi performing with his band “Call Home." In addition to Ramchella, our Ag Sales and Marketing Class put on a Farmer’s Market raising over $1000 towards their class projects. Some goods included fresh produce, handmade flower arrangements, and Garces FFA apparel! Our chapter is so glad for this opportunity and cannot wait for next year!

The Kern Inyo FFA’s most anticipated opening and closing competition is today. Garces FFA will be competing with 10 teams of six at Bakersfield College. The competition is scored on members in full official dress, memorization of their parts, annunciation, etc. Stay tuned for the results and be sure to follow our Instagram and Facebook for more highlights!

Teacher Tuesday

In a weekly installment that will run the rest of the school year, we will honor a faculty member here at Garces Memorial every Tuesday.

Both of these fantastic teachers are fan favorites around campus, and have been for years. Mr. Detloff is an English teacher and also teaches American Film. Coach Dignan is a health and physical education teacher and also the boys basketball program head.

Annual Fund Drive - The Garces Fund

Thank you to those of you who have already given to The Garces Fund in support of our school programs for the 2023-24 school year. The Garces Fund is critical to the success of our school as it provides funding for student programs and activities not covered by tuition. Unfortunately, the cost of a Garces college preparatory education is ever increasing. Currently, the cost to educate one student at Garces Memorial is approximately $16,459 per year. Tuition is $13,950. This means every student is the beneficiary of at least $2,500 in tuition assistance, which is considered “the gap”. Last year, “the gap” was roughly $2,800, so we are making progress. But we still need your help. We are asking our Garces families, alumni, and supporters to help us “Bridge the Gap” by making a donation to The Garces Fund a priority this school year.
