We call ourselves "The Philadelphia Committee" or "The PCGCA" for short, because we are a group of Philadelphia-based garden clubs who are also members of the national organization called The "Garden Club of America" (aka "The GCA.")
Every year, as autumn leaves fall, you and I and our fellow garden club members contribute gifts of financial support to the annual PCGCA "Fertilizer Fund" fundraising campaign.
Throughout the winter months, local non-profit organizations apply to The PCGCA to request financial assistance in the form of our Fertilizer Fund grants so they can undertake horticulture projects.
In the Spring, The PCGCA awards 100% of our donations as Fertilizer Fund Grants to worthy organizations who in turn apply our gifts towards the purchase of garden tools, soil and amendments, and plant material to transform plans and dreams into productive, lush gardens.
Since 1964, our gifts to The PCGCA Fertilizer Fund have planted vegetable gardens and orchards, pollinator plants, native trees and shrubs throughout Philadelphia. You can find our gardens in vacant lots and along abandoned railway lines, in public parks and playgrounds, at schools and senior centers and hospitals, and at museums and historical organizations across the city.
Our gifts also fund educational programs that introduce 'children of all ages' to the wonders of nature and teach nutrition, conservation and the importance of caring for our food supply and our planet.
