Buddleia, commonly known as Butterfly Bush, is true to its name. The gorgeous, fragrant flowers are not only prized by gardeners, but also adored by monarch butterflies and other pollinators (but detested by deer and rabbits). It’s easy to locate where the butterfly bushes are at Estabrook’s - just look for a cloud of butterflies! With over a dozen cultivars, there are lots to choose from.
Butterfly Bush love sun and heat and are hardy in Zones 5 through 9. They demand sharp drainage; wet soil is the death of them. Make sure to plant them where they will not be under huge snow piles as a result of plowing, snow blowing or crashing off roofs. Blooms can range from white, pink, blue, lavender, purple, pink, yellow, orange and reddish-purple. Prune butterfly bushes back to within a foot of the ground in early spring.
If you are looking for compact butterfly bushes for smaller spaces or growing in containers, check out the 'Pugster' and 'Lo & Behold' series. 'Pugster' tops out at around 2’ while 'Lo & Behold' (seedless) will grow between 2’ and 3’, except for ‘Pink Micro Chip’ (that only gets 18-24”). I love the ‘Miss’ varieties - ‘Miss Ruby’, ‘Miss Violet’, ‘Miss Pearl’ and ‘Miss Molly’. All are seedless and bloom almost non-stop. These get about 4’-5’ tall. Those in the 'Nanho' line can grow quite tall (up to 6’).
We have all of these spectacular varieties at Estabrook’s while they last. Best of all, you’ll save 20% OFF these butterfly magnets during
