Crocosmia is a dazzling, exotic looking perennial that is irresistible to hummingbirds. If you plant it, they WILL come!
A fresh inventory of these gorgeous sun-lovers just arrived at Estabrook’s, including six stunning cultivars to choose from. The flowers range from fire engine red, sunshine yellow, golden yellow or radiant orange and appear on graceful, arching stems that will bear the long, tubular, nectar-rich blooms from midsummer into fall. Attractive sword-shaped foliage that resembles Gladiolas completes the look.
Crocosmia grows between 2’ and 4’ tall in Zones 5-9. ‘Lucifer’ (flame-red flowers) is considered one of the hardiest for northern climates. In colder regions, the plants can be overwintered like Gladiolas or Dahlias. Simply cut the plant back to the ground in fall, lift, and shake off soil from the corms (bulbs), then store the corms in a cool, dark, dry place until replanting them in spring after danger of frost.
