Dear Friends,

Last month I delivered outdoor sculpture to the Fort Wayne Museum of Art where, on June 4th, the museum had the opening of Garden Party: Outdoor Sculptures by Dorothy Gillespie in its reinvigorated sculpture court. The sculptures will be on display until June 4, 2023.

As some of you know in April 1979, my mother came to Fort Wayne and wowed the locals with a city-wide exhibition of her lively colored metal and paper sculptures and her bright, airy abstract paintings. With her, she also brought a message of empowerment to women in the arts. 43 years later her sculptures have returned to Fort Wayne.

“I discovered a unique thing in Fort Wayne, the museum here is one of the most active museums I’ve found, I’m amazed.

I had no idea I would find this kind of art

involvement.”

– Dorothy Gillespie

After unloading the truck, I was invited to speak to a group of docents about my mother and her art which happens to be on display from the Museum's permanent collection.(See below)
