Volunteers Needed to Help Garden of Hope

Volunteers ages 18+ needed to supervise our garden while 4 to 6 youth work on Wednesday from 4 pm to 5pm through the school year.. The master gardeners program run it but request extra help in supervision in helping to keep kids on task near the Methodist church.

Volunteers would need background checked by the Pope County Department of Youth and Juvenile Probation Division. For more information contact Jamie Davis at479-967-1520.

Help wanted!

Rhonda Hlass has generously scheduled the altar party (Eucharistic ministers, acolytes etc.) for services for some time. She is needing to step away from this position. We need someone who is willing to pick up this task. It is a wonderful group of people to work with but it does take little bit of time. If you are interested in helping out with this very important ministry, please let the office or myself know. When you see Rhonda, please thank her for her time!

We have a Stewardship Chair.

Travis Simpson has agreed to take on this role. He has a lot going on in his life, husband of Melissa, father of four, the new editor of The Courier – whew! Travis, thank you. More than Enough is the theme for this year’s stewardship. As we are in the midst of a rector search, I do not need to tell you how important this campaign is. This stewardship campaign is our opportunity to take inventory of our spiritual resources, determine

the strength of our community, and recognize our capacity for generosity and that there is now, and always has been, More Than Enough. Stay tuned.

Bible Study Resumes

Join us for Bible Study on Wednesday starting September 21 at 11:15 am. Bring a lunch and we will continue our reading of Brian McLaren’s "We Make the Road by Walking." We will meet in Shoemaker Hall.

For the next two weeks we are going to finish our study of the Old Testament with the overview of Zechariah and Malachi. Then we will begin a study of the Book of Matthew.

A new Creation-Care project at All Saints’

And, a project for “Building-Care”, too; water is no longer pooling against the slab foundations of our building and potentially causing them to shift and the tile floors to crack because last spring the Vestry took action. They authorized the Grounds Committee and the Jr. Warden in charge of the churchyard to explore options for constructing a drainage system. Several

possibilities were explored and informal bids were obtained from several companies. The work is complete and now the water that falls on our roof will no longer flow directly onto the top of the new AC units or form ponds between the west facade of our building and the circle drive. There are new gutters on the south side of our building (funded by a donation) and a complex underground drainage system all along the west facade (funded by All Saints’). Drainage was also improved along our south and east walls.

The experts we consulted agreed that planting more bushes and trees close up against the church building’s foundation (and subsequent watering of these plants) could hamper our efforts to dry out the ground around our building. Consequently, visions of bird friendly landscaping and plans to make the west front entrance of our building more beautiful were

redirected to the “island” between Phoenix and our circle drive. You can see beginning of those efforts in the new native stone raised planting bed that Candy Welcher has constructed around the big green and white All Saints’ sign. Bird, bee, and butterfly friendly plants, most natives of

Arkansas, will be placed in that bed, which now contains a mix of topsoil and compost spread over aerated ground. Money for the soil and plants (and a detailed landscaping plan by Little Rock Architect Jennifer Polk) came from donations.

Finishing work continues: zoysia sod is being established over the area disturbed by construction of the drainage system; and later this fall native flowers, grasses, and shrubs from Pine Ridge Gardens in London, Arkansas, will be planted in the new raised bed on the island. What’s left to do? We need to construct a visual barrier to block the big air conditioning units from view and proceed with the landscape architect’s suggestions to plant an understory of dogwood and redbuds among the two groves of large oak trees that grace the island. If you have ideas about a design for an attractive shield for the AC units, please let me know.

Kid's Chapel

Kid's Chapel is September 18 at 10:30 am, we will go over the story of Adam and Eve using Legos!

EYC to Resume

Episcopal Youth Community will meet again on September 21 at 5:30 pm to 7 pm. This weekly group is for youth 12 years to 18 years old and led this fall by Lukas Turner. Youth will journey through discovering their faith.

Dinner is Macho Nachos from Mary Ellen Patton.

A Signup will be in Shoemaker Hall for those who can help with food.

EKC in September

Episcopal Kids Community for ages 5 to 11 years old will be on September 18 after the 10:30am service. This gathering will take place the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month. It will include food, fellowship, fun games or crafts and music.

We will have a picnic in the park, check on our watermelons and pumpkins and then finish with rehearsing a new song with Tim and Kristin Smith for our Lessons and Carols event in December.

Nursery Open

Friendly reminder our Nursery is open every Sunday from 9am to the end of the 10:30 am service for newborns to 5 years old. It's located near our fellowship hall, Sutherland. Snacks provided and Spanish language available.

Neighbors Table Update

Last week 105 meals were served drive through and 52 delivered to families in the community and parish. Our partners from the First Christian Church prepared our meal; the sloppy joes and fruit salad they made were delicious. In Loaves and Fishes we were able to offer milk and fresh eggs thanks to our Blue and You grant specifically for healthy fruits, veggies and proteins. We are grateful to everyone who helps us keep in compliance with our State Laws for our Certified Kitchen. Thank you!

This week our menu is roasted pork with teriyaki rice, salad with Food Bank veggies, and cinnamon buns for dessert. Each meal will also have a piece of fresh fruit, mozzarella cheese sticks and a granola bar. We will prepare 150 meals, using food from the Arkansas Foodbank.

Cereal, Dish Soap, Toilet Paper, Shampoo, Toothbrushes ; Toothpaste for Loaves and Fishes

Loaves and Fishes, a part of the Neighbors Table ministry, asks for donations of cereal, dish soap, toilet paper and shampoo to provide to our guests. Also needed are soft and medium toothbrushes and toothpaste. Children’s toothbrushes are welcome donations. Please place your gifts in the Loaves and Fishes Wagon in the nave.

As a reminder, you can support Neighbors Table with a donation to Food Ministries in the Giving tab at the All Saints’ webpage.

NT is also asking for reusable bags to help distribute our Loaves and Fishes

items on Saturday. If you have any extras, please bring to church.
