Garland Library Wins Achievement in Excellence Award

For the 20th consecutive year, Garland’s Nicholson Memorial Library System is a recipient of the Achievement of Excellence Award from the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association. Of the more than 500 public library systems in the state, only 10% receive the award each year. Learn more.
Community Development Department Honored

Garland’s Community Development Department was recognized by the National Community Development Association for its efforts to partner with community organizations and federal housing funds to provide a home to an Army veteran on Veterans Day 2021.

Earth Day Celebration Saturday, April 23

Join Go Green Garland for a FREE drive-thru Earth Day celebration event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 23, in the parking lot behind the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

Enjoy electronics and battery recycling, paper shredding, cardboard recycling and more! Proof of Garland residency, such as a utility bill, is required.

Adult Craft Workshop Saturday, April 23

Adults age 18 and older can celebrate Earth Day by making a hanging planter out of recycled materials at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

Create a unique planter from a repurposed soda bottle, then add soil and seeds to start growing a plant that you can take home!

The event is free but registration is required and space is limited. Register online or call 972-205-3931.
Team Downtown Information Session Saturday, April 23
Team Downtown is a new volunteer ambassador program in Downtown Garland. Team Downtown volunteers offer concierge services, directional help to businesses and general expertise about Downtown.

Come learn about Downtown construction and how you can get involved!

This informational session will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St. Snacks and coffee will be provided.

Severe Weather: What to Do if Your Power Goes Out
Severe weather season is here, and storms with high winds can cause power outages.

Garland Power & Light customers can report outages by calling 972-205-3000 or texting OUT to 972-205-4000. Learn more at GP&L's Outage Center.

Construction Work to Begin at Forest Lane and Shiloh Road

Beginning, Monday, April 11, the City will start the process of replacing the concrete pavement on both sides of the Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad, Inc. railroad crossing on Forest Lane just east of South Shiloh Road.

Various lanes will be closed throughout the repair. The construction process should be completed within four to six weeks, weather permitting.

Please expect traffic delays and seek alternate travel routes to avoid this work zone. If you have questions, email Street@GarlandTX.gov. 
COVID-19 Vaccines, Boosters Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

You can get the COVID-19 vaccine or booster without an appointment at our Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Public Health Clinic is providing initial doses for adults and children, as well as booster doses of Moderna, Pfizer and Janssen vaccines based on CDC guidance. Individuals 50 and older are now eligible for a second booster dose.

The Public Health Clinic is a vaccine site, not a testing site. Every home in the U.S. can now order four free at-⁠home COVID-⁠19 tests at covidtests.gov.

The Garland Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, April 11, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.
