May 7 Local Election
The City of Garland will hold a May 7 general election to elect City Council members for Districts 2 and 5. The last day to register to vote in the election is Thursday, April 7.

The Garland Chamber of Commerce will host a Candidates Forum where you can learn more about the candidates for City Council and Garland Independent School District Board of Trustees. The forum will take place at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Dallas College - Garland Center, 675 W. Walnut St.

Early voting will begin Monday, April 25, and end Tuesday, May 3. Early voting locations and other information will be listed by the Dallas County Elections Department.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 7. Garland residents may vote at any polling place in Dallas County. Learn more.
Budget Department Recognized for Excellence

Garland’s Budget & Research Department received the Government Finance Officers Association’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its 2021-22 Annual Operating Budget document.

The award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of government budgeting. Learn more.
Purchasing Team Earns Excellence Award

Garland’s Purchasing Department (above) was recently recognized with its 23rd consecutive Excellence of Achievement in Procurement Award from the National Procurement Institute.

The award recognizes organizational excellence by measuring innovation, professionalism,
e-procurement, productivity and leadership attributes of the profession.
Egg Scramble Wednesday, April 13
Hop on over to Audubon Park for a chance to hunt for colorful candy and toy-filled eggs! The egg hunt is free and no registration is necessary.

Activities include bounce houses, face painting, selfies with the Easter Bunny and snacks for sale.

All age groups will start the hunt at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at the Carter Softball Complex in Audubon Park, 550 W. Oates Road.
Teen After Hours at the Library Saturday, April 16
Hey teens, have you ever wanted to go to the library after it’s closed? Now you can! Teens ages 13 to 17 can join us for fun activities and snacks in our new Teen After Hours program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

It's mystery night! Teens will discover their inner detective as they work through the evidence and clues provided by a predetermined mystery party kit.

COVID-19 Vaccines, Boosters Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

You can get the COVID-19 vaccine or booster without an appointment at our Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Public Health Clinic is providing initial doses for adults and children, as well as booster doses of Moderna, Pfizer and Janssen vaccines based on CDC guidance.

The Public Health Clinic is a vaccine site, not a testing site. Every home in the U.S. can now order four free at-⁠home COVID-⁠19 tests at covidtests.gov.

April 4 and 5
The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, April 4. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

All upcoming Boards & Commissions meetings can be found on the Public Meetings calendar at GarlandTX.gov.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.
