School Begins Tomorrow: Remember to Observe School Zones
As Garland ISD students prepare to return to school tomorrow, the City reminds all motorists to observe school zones and stay alert near schools, crosswalks and playgrounds.

Clear the Shelters Saturday, Aug. 17
Find the perfect furry friend for you on
Clear the Shelters Day, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Garland Pet Adoption Center, 813 Main St., or Garland Animal Services, 600 Tower St.
On this day, Garland Animal Services will join animal shelters across the nation to waive pet adoption fees in an effort to find homes for hundreds of pets.

14th Annual Dog-a-Poolooza Sunday, Aug. 18
Garland's annual pool party for dogs, hosted by Garland Pawsibilities, will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, at Holford Pool, 2322 Homestead Place.
Cost is $5 per dog (rabies tag or certification required), and $1 per human (cash only).
Dogs and their owners can enjoy unleashed swimming, pet services and supplies, and a dog wash!

After-Hours Code Compliance
Code Compliance has extended its operating hours to 7 p.m. to concentrate on parking issues in neighborhoods.
Code Compliance is focusing on items such as parking on unimproved surfaces, parking vehicles across sidewalks, oversized and commercial vehicles, trailers on residential streets and illegal home businesses.

Catch the Trains: Model Railroad Exhibit at the South Garland Branch Library
The Nicholson Memorial Library System and the Spring Creek Model Railroad Club will host a free model train exhibit Aug. 22-24 at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.
The models represent many eras of railroading from the 1880s to the present day and operate steam, diesel, freight and passenger equipment. Knowledgeable hobbyists can share their expertise on how to build and run model trains and answer questions during the exhibit. Learn more.

The 74th annual Labor Day parade and festivities, presented by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, will take place
Monday, Sept. 2.
The parade begins at 9 a.m. followed by the car show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Apply Now for Citizens Fire Academy
The Garland Fire Department is proud to provide an opportunity for Garland residents to participate in a hands-on program that promotes a greater understanding of the mission, responsibilities and activities of the Fire Department while serving the community.
This eight-week program begins Sept. 5. Weekly meetings are held at 6 p.m. Thursdays. The class culminates Nov. 3 with a graduation and "Burn Day."
