Fire Department Earns American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline EMS Gold Award
The Garland Fire Department has received the American Heart Association's Mission: Lifeline ®  EMS Gold Award for implementing quality improvement measures for the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks.

"For the seventh consecutive year, GFD has been recognized by the American Heart Association," said Garland Fire Chief Mark Lee. "There is an elite group of providers who are awarded this Gold Level Award and even fewer to be recognized for seven years in a row!"

DART Collects Comments on Planned Service Changes
Dallas Area Rapid Transit is planning to implement service changes on Monday, Oct. 19.

DART will host an in-person event at  noon Saturday, Aug. 8, and a virtual event at  6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, to collect public comments regarding the plan. Comments may also be  submitted via email

Apply Now for Boards and Commissions
Do you want to make a difference in your City? The Garland City Council is currently accepting applications for all boards and commissions through Friday, Aug. 7.
 
Council members will review applications submitted and nominate the persons determined to be most qualified for the position.
 
Appointments will be made at the Regular Meeting of the City Council, Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Incentive Program Hits Mark, Funds Allocated
Last year, the Garland City Council allocated $250,000 for the Home Improvement Incentive Program, designed to encourage homeowners to make exterior improvements to prevent blight and make neighborhoods more attractive.

The Office of Neighborhood Vitality reports that residents from all over Garland responded enthusiastically to the program. All program funds have now been committed for a total of 45 home improvement projects.

City Council will monitor the progress of these projects and assess the overall effectiveness of the program. Congratulations to our successful applicants!
Garland Emergency Residential Assistance Program
The City of Garland has partnered with  Catholic Charities of Dallas Inc.  to provide emergency mortgage and rental assistance to City of Garland residents impacted by COVID-19. 

Catholic Charities Inc. is processing applications on a first-come, first-served basis. While we are committed to processing as many applications as we have funding for, we do anticipate a high demand. Learn more.

COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 1,786 active cases out of 4,428 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 40 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon after 2 p.m.

Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Overnight I-30 Closures
Aug. 3-25
Weather permitting, the right lane on east and westbound Interstate 30 over Lake Ray Hubbard will be closed overnight Monday through Thursday (into Friday morning) 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Aug. 3-25. Immunization Clinic

The Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, for back-to-school immunizations. Learn more.

Beware of COVID-19 Scams
Scams and rumors are common during emergency and crisis situations. Most recently, Garland police say a scammer convinced a resident their water may be contaminated with COVID-19 in order to gain access to their home. Visit GarlandTX.gov for more information on how to spot scams and protect yourself.
