Garland City Manager Nominates Jeff Bryan as Chief of Police
Garland City Manager Bryan Bradford has nominated Jeff Bryan as the new Chief of Police, effective Feb. 20. 

Jeff Bryan currently serves as Garland's Assistant Chief of Police. City Manager Bradford will submit his selection of Assistant Chief Bryan to the Garland City Council for formal approval in accordance with Texas Civil Service statutes (Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code) on Feb. 19. 

Garland Fire Marshal Battalion Chief Receives Distinguished Leadership Award
Fire Marshal Battalion Chief Mike VanBuskirk received the 2019 Leadership Garland Distinguished Leadership Award from the Garland Chamber of Commerce at the Chamber's 87th Annual Banquet on Thursday, Jan. 31.

Nominees for the award have a record of significant and continuous participation in activities designed for the betterment of the community. They are also required to demonstrate an attitude that fosters the strengthening of civic responsibility in the community.
Garland Board & Volunteer Fair: Feb. 26
Enjoy an evening of networking and conversation with more than 30 of Garland's nonprofit, civic and community organizations from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

These organizations are seeking both volunteers and/or open board vacancies, and you'll have the opportunity to learn more about helping serve the Garland community.

Water-Wise Landscape Design 101 Class
Another great landscape class is coming your way on Saturday, March 2! Whether you are planning a new landscape or updating an existing area, it's important to begin with good design. In this free class, long-time Dallas landscape designer Bonnie Reese will teach the principles of do-it-yourself landscape design with an emphasis on how to create a beautiful landscape that reduces maintenance and conserves resources.

May 4 General Election Information
Garland voters will have many items to consider in the May 4 General Election. Voters will elect a mayor and City Council representatives for districts 3, 6, 7 and 8. Voters also will consider eight bond propositions. For more information about City elections, visit the City Secretary's web page. Details about the bond propositions are being produced and will be available on the 2019 Bond Program web page soon.
