State Primary Election Tuesday, March 1
This year voters in Texas will decide the next governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general, as well as who will represent them in other offices and seats in the state and U.S. capitols. Tuesday’s election will decide which candidates from each party advance to the election in November.

Election day for the state primary election is Tuesday, March 1. Registered voters can cast their ballots at any Dallas County vote center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Lawn Care Assistance Applications Due Tuesday, March 1
The Garland Code Compliance Department is accepting applications for the Lawn Care Assistance Program. This program will provide summer mowing for seniors (age 60 or older) and disabled Garland homeowners who are physically and/or financially unable to maintain their yards to comply with City codes and have no other assistance available.

Applications are available online and can also be picked up at our Code Compliance office,
210 Carver St., Suite 101. Residents who are unable to pick up an application may call 972-485-6400 and request that an application be emailed or mailed.

Application packets must be filled out completely and returned to Code Compliance along with required documents. All applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until all spots are filled. For more information, visit GarlandTX.gov or call 972-485-6400.
Student Ambassadors Paid Internship Program and Hiring Event This Week
Don't miss out! Join us for the Student Ambassadors Hiring Event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Dallas College - Garland Center, 675 W. Walnut St.

This is a come-and-go event where students at least 16 years old can visit with various department hiring managers and learn more about the rewarding paid internships available for summer 2022. There will be a live DJ, snacks, swag items and a parents' lounge area for those interested in attending.

Art Walk Thursday, March 10
The Art Walk makes its triumphant return to the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

Local and professional artists will display and sell their visual creations in this market-style event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 10.

The event will also feature youth art activities and local dessert shop Scoop N' Buns.

Meet & Craft at the South Garland Branch Library
Adults, do you love fiber crafts? Join fellow fiber enthusiasts and craft together from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

Share your skills and learn from others. All fiber crafts and skill levels are welcome. Bring your own craft supplies. Continue your works in progress, start a new project or show off your current or finished projects.

COVID-19 Vaccines, Boosters Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

You can get the COVID-19 vaccine or booster without an appointment at our Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Public Health Clinic is a vaccine site, not a testing site. A list of testing sites, along with more resources, is available at GarlandTX.gov. Every home in the U.S. can now order four free at-⁠home COVID-⁠19 tests at covidtests.gov.
Flu Shots Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

Flu shots are available at the Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for adults, children and seniors who are insured. Low-cost flu vaccines for uninsured children and adults are also available.

City Council Meetings
Feb. 28 and March 1
The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

Boards & Commissions Meetings
All upcoming Boards & Commissions meetings can be found on the Public Meetings calendar at GarlandTX.gov.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.

COVID-19 Updates
As of Monday, Feb. 21, the Garland Health Department has received reports of 1,022 active cases out of 59,642 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 718 deaths. The City updates its posted case numbers each Monday.

The City of Garland and its community partners are facilitating access to recovery programs for Garland residents who have been impacted by COVID-19. Assistance is available for a variety of services, including financial assistance for housing, utilities, food and medical expenses, as well as workforce training and job placement services, and counseling and emergency shelter assistance.
