COVID-19 Testing Site to Open in Garland
The Centers for Disease Control in coordination with the Department of Health and Human Services will open a drive-thru COVID-19 testing location Thursday, Jan. 20, at Johnson Stadium, 1029 E. Centerville Road.

Preregistration is required for anyone being tested. No walk-up or drive-up testing will be offered. Register online at https://ineedacovid19test.com/Garland_TX_14603.html, by calling 800-635-8611 or by scanning or scan the QR code provided.

The site will offer only the PCR test, not the rapid test. It is anticipated that test results will be ready within 24 to 36 hours. The site will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Mayor's Annual State of the City Address Tuesday, Jan. 25

City Holiday Hours and Services: Monday, Jan. 17
All City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, recreation centers and senior centers, and libraries will be closed Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The recycling center, transfer station and C.M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill will also be closed. Firewheel Golf Park will remain open.

There will be no disruption in trash or recycling collection. Find your pickup schedule at My Garland. As a reminder, please have carts and materials out and ready for pickup by 7 a.m. to ensure thorough and timely service.

How to Turn Off Water to Your Home

In case of an emergency, everyone should know who to call or how to turn off the water both at the house and the meter.

The City of Garland Water Utilities Department has made an instructional video to help homeowners locate and operate both their house shut off valve and their water meter shut off.

Winter Fire Prevention Tips

The Garland Fire Department works closely with other City departments as well as state and federal agencies to provide important information and resources to help you prevent fires in your home or workplace.

COVID-19 Vaccines, Boosters Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

You can get the COVID-19 vaccine without an appointment at our Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Public Health Clinic is providing initial doses for adults and children, as well as booster doses of Moderna, Pfizer and Janssen vaccines based on CDC guidance. 

The Public Health Clinic is a vaccine site, not a testing site. A list of testing sites, along with more resources, is available at GarlandTX.gov.
Flu Shots Available at Garland's Public Health Clinic

Flu shots are available at the Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for adults, children and seniors who are insured. Low-cost flu vaccines for uninsured children and adults are also available.

Jan. 18
Due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, and Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

Boards & Commissions Meetings
All upcoming Boards & Commissions meetings can be found on the Public Meetings calendar at GarlandTX.gov.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.

First Day to File for a Place on the May 7 Ballot
Jan. 19
Wednesday, Jan. 19, is the first day candidates may file for a place on the May 7 City of Garland General Election for City Council Districts 1, 2, 4 and 5. The last day to file is Friday, Feb. 18. DART Bus Route Changes
Jan. 24
Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s redesigned bus network goes into effect Monday, Jan. 24. Bus schedules for the new bus network are available at DART.org/newbus.
COVID-19 Updates
As of Monday, Jan. 10, the Garland Health Department has received reports of 4,324 active cases out of 45,419 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 644 deaths. The City updates its posted case numbers each Monday.

The City of Garland and its community partners are facilitating access to recovery programs for Garland residents who have been impacted by COVID-19. Assistance is available for a variety of services, including financial assistance for housing, utilities, food and medical expenses, as well as workforce training and job placement services, and counseling and emergency shelter assistance.

Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant Letters of Intent Due Sunday, Jan. 23
The Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant program enables registered neighborhood groups, both voluntary and mandatory, to apply for matching funds for physical enhancement projects in publicly accessible spaces. Letters of intent should be submitted to the Office of Neighborhood Vitality by Sunday, Jan. 23. Forms, applications and guidelines can be downloaded at GarlandNeighborhoods.org.
