Amy Rosenthal Joins City as Cultural Arts Director
Amy Rosenthal joined the City of Garland as Cultural Arts Director on June 27. Most recently, Rosenthal served as Director for McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) and McKinney Main Street.

Rosenthal helped produce more than 150 acts presented at MPAC with artists including Molly Ringwald, Clint Black, Robert Earl Keen, Duncan Sheik, Pentatonix, Aaron Neville, Jewell and Lindsey Buckingham.

As Main Street director, her responsibilities included maintaining McKinney as a state and nationally accredited Main Street program. Learn more.
Crossing Guard Hiring Events July 15 and 18
The City is hiring crossing guards for the 2022-23 school year and will host two in-person hiring events:
  • 12:30 to 5 p.m. Friday, July 15
  • 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, July 18

Both hiring events will take place at Holford Recreation Center, 2314 Homestead Place.

Under the Sea Family Literacy Party at the Library Saturday, July 16
Let's explore the ocean! Enjoy ocean-themed books, games and activities from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Walnut Creek Branch Library, 3319 Edgewood Drive.

Activities will be set up as individual stations and families can explore the stations at their own pace.

Efficient Irrigation Systems: Easy Repairs and Trouble Shooting
The smallest fixes can make the biggest difference when it comes to your sprinkler system.

Join the North Texas Municipal Water District and Texas A&M AgriLife for a free virtual class at noon Tuesday, July 19. You'll learn how to adjust and replace sprinkler heads and make other small repairs as needed to keep your system running smoothly. By learning these simple tips, you can improve water-use efficiency and reduce water waste by preventing leaks and evaporation.

Free Basketball Clinic with the Texas Legends Tuesday, July 19
The Garland Water Utilities Department and the North Texas Municipal Water District will host a free basketball STEM clinic at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at the Salvation Army Community Center, 435 S. Fifth St.
 
This innovative program brings science and sports together to teach kids ages 6 through 12 about the importance of water conservation. They'll enjoy an afternoon of science, basketball and fun with professional basketball players from the Texas Legends! 
 
Downtown Construction Update: Main Street Reopens, Parking Available
Construction on the Downtown Square is now in Phase 2! Main Street has reopened and construction has moved to State Street. 

State Street between Sixth and Fifth streets, including the entire intersection at Fifth Street, is now closed. The businesses will remain open and so will the adjacent sidewalks. This section of State Street will be closed for approximately five to six months as construction continues. Learn more at GarlandTX.gov.

Band Together on the Square Concert Series Continues Friday, July 15

Downtown Garland has a diverse musical experience that will go great with your carefree summer vibe.

Join us every Friday evening through September for one of the best concert series of the summer!

Our series continues at 7 p.m. Friday, July 15, at 506 Main St. featuring Jimmy Wallace and Rachel Stacy. Be sure to explore Downtown Garland's fabulous array of eateries and shops before and after the show!

Sounds of Summer Concert Series Wraps Up at Winters Park Thursday, July 21

Garland’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series wraps up at Winters Park Amphitheatre, 1419 Spring Creek Drive. The final concert in our series kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, with Cody Canada & The Departed.

Along with presenting partner Veritex Bank and artist sponsor Jimmy Wallace Guitars, the City is proud to feature touring on-the-rise artists and lively entertainers who are sure to blow you away with talent and get you dancing. More details are available at VisitGarlandTX.com.

The concert is FREE! Bring the family, grab a bite from on-site food vendors and let the kids challenge each other in the activity area.
Wynn Joyce Road Water Line Improvements to Begin
Beginning Monday, July 11, all traffic along Wynn Joyce Road between South Country Club roads will be one way going east. 

Weather permitting, work is expected to continue until late September. Please expect traffic delays and seek alternate travel routes during this time.
