Garland Welcomes New Cultural Arts Director
David Fisher joined the City of Garland as Cultural Arts Director on July 5.

David has served as an arts administrator and artist in North Texas for nearly 30 years. He began his Texas career at the Dallas Children’s Theater, served as the Executive Director of the Turtle Creek Chorale and spent 24 years with the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture. 

David served in various positions with the City of Dallas including Assistant Director, Interim Director, and Manager of the Bath House Cultural Center, Meyerson Symphony Center and WRR Radio.

David has a Master of Fine Arts in Directing from Tulane University and a Master of Business Administration in Nonprofit Management from the University of Dallas. Learn more.
Windsurf Bay Closure Notice
As a response to safety concerns when large crowds are present, the City of Garland will close Windsurf Bay Park, located on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, 5556 Locust Grove Road, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer. In addition, the park will be closed for every holiday.

Utility Customer Service Resumes Non-Pay Disconnects
The Public Utility Commission recently ended the statewide moratorium on all utility non-pay disconnects that has been in effect since Feb. 21. The Customer Service Department will resume normal operations concerning utility disconnects for both electric and water Monday, July 5.

The City of Garland will continue to work with customers prior to a potential non-pay interruption in service(s) and strongly encourages those needing assistance to contact Utility Customer Service at 972-205-2671 or CustServ@GarlandTX.gov to discuss their situation. Include the service address and account number in any correspondence.

Garland Summer Musicals Continues Friday, July 16, with "9 to 5: The Musical"

With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, "9 to 5: The Musical" is based on the sensational 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

Enjoy An Evening with Moths at Spring Creek Forest Preserve Saturday, July 17

The Garland Parks & Recreation Department and the Preservation Society for Spring Creek Forest will host An Evening with Moths at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at the Preserve, 1770 Holford Road.

Bring the whole family to this outdoor event featuring special guest Urban Wildlife Biologist Sam Kieschnick from Texas Parks & Wildlife.

This event is coordinated with National Moth Week, which celebrates the beauty, life cycles and habitats of moths. Learn more.
Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant Letters of Intent Due Friday, July 23
Neighborhood groups registered with the Office of Neighborhood Vitality may apply for up to $100,000 in matching funds for neighborhood enhancement projects on public property. Additional assistance is available for voluntary neighborhood groups. Letters of Intent are due Friday, July 23.

Need a little help? Attend the virtual Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant Workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, to gain valuable technical assistance and learn helpful tips for completing a successful project.

The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

District 2 Town Hall
July 13

Be a Part of the 75th Annual Labor Day Parade
Sept. 6
The 75th annual Labor Day parade and festivities, presented by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, will take place Monday, Sept. 6. The parade begins at 9 a.m. followed by the car show and karaoke contest. Submit your parade entry today! Registration information and applications are available at NoonExchangeClubofGarland.org.
COVID-19 Updates
As of Monday, July 5, the Garland Health Department has received reports of 132 active cases out of 28,631 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 445 deaths. The City updates its posted case numbers each Monday.

The City of Garland and its community partners are facilitating access to recovery programs for Garland residents who have been impacted by COVID-19. Assistance is available for a variety of services, including financial assistance for housing, utilities, food and medical expenses, as well as workforce training and job placement services, and counseling and emergency shelter assistance.
Fight the Bite
The City of Garland reminds residents to protect themselves against mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile Virus by limiting outdoor activity during evening and early morning hours and wearing light-colored, long-sleeve clothing while outdoors. Remember also to eliminate any standing water on your property as this is where mosquitoes lay eggs. Learn more at GarlandTX.gov.
