Garland Opens New Dog Park
Garland's new dog park, located within Central Park along Glenbrook Drive, is officially open for play!

Amenities at the Garland Dog Park include three fenced paddocks, drinking fountains, shade, lighting, seating, fencing and parking. The park will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., closing only for routine maintenance and after rain events or other wet conditions.  Other amenities include magnetic locks on gates for security and a new restroom building on north side of the park. 

Garland Unveils New Playground at Central Park
A new, inclusive and sensory-friendly playground is now open at Garland's Central Park, 1310 W. Avenue F, in close proximity to Granger Recreation Center. 

The new 6,500-square-foot playground is designed for children of all abilities to play, learn and grow together and to support park patrons with a variety of physical, sensory and cognitive needs.

Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant Workshop July 14
Attention all neighborhood groups! The Letter of Intent deadline for the Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant (NVMG) program is Thursday, July 23. Neighborhood groups who are registered with the Office of Neighborhood Vitality may apply for up to $100,000 in matching funds for neighborhood enhancement projects on public property.
 
Need a little help? Attend the virtual NVMG Workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, to gain valuable technical assistance and learn helpful tips for completing a successful project.  Register for the workshop, download program guidelines and more at GarlandNeighborhoods.org .
Fire Department Blood Drive Wednesday, July 15
Register now to participate in the Garland Fire Department Blood Drive! 

Several afternoon time slots are still available for appointments Wednesday, July 15, at the Garland Fire Department Administration parking lot, 1500 State Highway 66. 

Reserve your spot today! Participants  will receive a free Texas Rangers baseball hat after a successful donation.
Health Protocols for Voting and Special Voting Options in July 14 Primary Election
The Secretary of State's Office has released guidance on recommended health protocols for Texas election officials and voters (pdf).

In preparation for the upcoming Democratic Primary Runoff Election on Tuesday, July 14, the Dallas County Elections Department will implement these procedures for all voters who wish to cast their ballot in person.

Dallas County has also implemented special voting options for the Primary Runoff Election. Details are available in this election news release (pdf)  and in Spanish (pdf).

Garland Emergency Residential Assistance Program
The City of Garland has partnered with  Catholic Charities of Dallas Inc.  to provide emergency mortgage and rental assistance to those City of Garland residents impacted by COVID-19. 

Catholic Charities Inc. is processing applications on a first-come, first-served basis. While we are committed to processing as many applications as we have funding for, we do anticipate a high demand. Learn more.
COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 1,710 active cases out of 3,058 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 31 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon after 2 p.m.

The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

City Council Meeting
July 14
The Garland City Council  will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, July 14.

Due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, the meetings will be virtual.  You can watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.

Beware of COVID-19 Scams
Scams and rumors are common during emergency and crisis situations. Most recently, Garland police say a scammer convinced a resident their water may be contaminated with COVID-19 in order to gain access to their home. Visit GarlandTX.gov for more information on how to spot scams and protect yourself.
