Sounds of Summer Concert Series Finale at Winters Park Thursday, July 21
Garland’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series wraps up at Winters Park Amphitheatre, 1419 Spring Creek Drive. The final concert in our series kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, with Cody Canada & The Departed.

Along with presenting partner Veritex Bank and artist sponsor Jimmy Wallace Guitars, the City is proud to feature touring on-the-rise artists and lively entertainers who are sure to blow you away with talent and get you dancing. More details are available at VisitGarlandTX.com.

The concert is FREE! Bring the family, grab a bite from on-site food vendors and let the kids challenge each other in the activity area.
Crossing Guard Hiring Event Monday, July 18
The City is hiring crossing guards for the 2022-23 school year and will host an in-person hiring event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Holford Recreation Center, 2314 Homestead Place.

Appointments are required. Call 972-205-2438 to schedule.

Resources for Summer Heat-Related Needs
Resources are available for Garland residents who need financial or physical assistance to handle the summer heat.

For those struggling to cover utility bills, help is available through the City of Garland Customer Assistance Program, a partnership between the City and local service agencies. Funds are administered and distributed to qualified individuals experiencing hardships. Visit Garland’s Utility Customer Service webpage or call 972-205-2671.

City of Garland Heritage Crossing Coordinator Kim Nurmi recently graduated from the Leadership Arts Institute.

Graduates of Leadership Arts Institute (LAI) gain expertise in nonprofit board best practices, leadership skills and the role of arts and culture in building a more equitable, educated and healthy North Texas.

Band Together on the Square Concert Series Continues Friday, July 22

Downtown Garland has a diverse musical experience that will go great with your carefree summer vibe.

Garland Summer Musicals Continues Friday, July 22
Garland Summer Musicals continues its 2022 season with "Legally Blonde: The Musical," a fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the adored movie.

Follow the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. Action-packed and exploding with memorable songs and dynamic dances, this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal!
Performances will take place Fridays through Sundays, July 22-24 and 29-31, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St. Tickets available at GarlandArtsBoxOffice.com, by calling 972-205-2790 or in-person at the Granville Arts Center Box Office.  
End of Summer Booktacular Bash at the Library Saturday, July 30
Children and families can celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Program from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 30, at the Central Library, 625 Austin St.

Enjoy free treats, games and outdoor activities — even dunk your favorite librarian at the dunk tank!

Downtown Construction Update: Main Street Reopens, Parking Available
Construction on the Downtown Square is now in Phase 2! Main Street has reopened and construction has moved to State Street. 

State Street between Sixth and Fifth streets, including the entire intersection at Fifth Street, is now closed. The businesses will remain open and so will the adjacent sidewalks. This section of State Street will be closed for approximately five to six months as construction continues. Learn more at GarlandTX.gov.

Plenty of free public parking is available throughout the Downtown area, so be sure to continue supporting our local businesses. There’s plenty of fun activities going on all summer, too. You can find all the details at VisitGarlandTX.com.

City Council Meetings
July 18 and 19
The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, July 18. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

Boards & Commissions Meetings
All upcoming Boards & Commissions meetings can be found on the Public Meetings calendar at GarlandTX.gov.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online.

Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant Letters of Intent Deadline
July 23
Neighborhood groups registered with the Office of Neighborhood Vitality may apply for up to $100,000 in matching funds for neighborhood enhancement projects on public property. Additional assistance is available for voluntary neighborhood groups. Letters of Intent are due Saturday, July 23. Download program guidelines, forms and more at GarlandNeighborhoods.org.
