Windsurf Bay Closure Notice
As a response to safety concerns when large crowds are present, the City of Garland will close Windsurf Bay Park, located on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard, 5556 Locust Grove Road, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the summer. In addition, the park will be closed for every holiday.

Utility Customer Service Resumes Non-Pay Disconnects
The Public Utility Commission recently ended the statewide moratorium on all utility non-pay disconnects that has been in effect since Feb. 21. The Customer Service Department resumed normal operations concerning utility disconnects for both electric and water Monday, July 5.

The City of Garland will continue to work with customers prior to a potential non-pay interruption in service(s) and strongly encourages those needing assistance to contact Utility Customer Service at 972-205-2671 or CustServ@GarlandTX.gov to discuss their situation. Include the service address and account number in any correspondence.
Buckingham Road Railroad Crossing Improvement
The Garland Street Department is working with the Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCS) to improve the crossing on Buckingham Road, just west of Lavon Drive (SH 78).

Construction is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, July 23. KCS will start the process of replacing the track infrastructure on their rail line where it crosses East Buckingham Road. The entire roadway will be closed until the work is complete. It should be open to traffic after 7 p.m. Sunday, July 25.

The businesses between the KCS crossing and North First Street will have limited access during the construction process. A detour around the work zone will be in place during the construction. Please expect traffic delays and plan accordingly. 
Be a Part of the 75th Annual Labor Day Parade
The 75th annual Labor Day parade and festivities, presented by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, will take place Monday, Sept. 6.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the car show and karaoke contest. Submit your parade entry today!

GHFC Applications Open Through Aug. 6
The City will accept applications through Friday, Aug. 6, for a Garland Housing Finance Corp. (GHFC) board member position. The current term ends Aug. 31.
GHFC is a public nonprofit corporation. The programs offered by GHFC are designed to increase affordable housing opportunities while strengthening Garland.
A resume and letter of interest may be submitted to René Dowl, City Secretary, at RDowl@GarlandTX.gov or to City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St., Garland 75040. Applicants will be interviewed by the City Council at the 6 p.m. Aug. 16 Work Session.

Neighborhood Vitality Matching Grant Letters of Intent Due Friday, July 23
Neighborhood groups registered with the Office of Neighborhood Vitality may apply for up to $100,000 in matching funds for neighborhood enhancement projects on public property. Additional assistance is available for voluntary neighborhood groups. Letters of Intent are due Friday, July 23.

Garland Summer Musicals Continues with "9 to 5: The Musical"

With music and lyrics by Dolly Parton, "9 to 5: The Musical" is based on the sensational 1980 hit movie. Set in the late 1970s, this hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era is outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic.

July 19 and 20
The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, July 19. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.

COVID-19 Updates
As of Monday, July 12, the Garland Health Department has received reports of 156 active cases out of 28,711 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 450 deaths. The City updates its posted case numbers each Monday.
Fight the Bite
The City of Garland reminds residents to protect themselves against mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile Virus by limiting outdoor activity during evening and early morning hours and wearing light-colored, long-sleeve clothing while outdoors. Remember also to eliminate any standing water on your property as this is where mosquitoes lay eggs. Learn more at GarlandTX.gov.
