Garland's Animal Services and Police Departments Team Up to Save Abused Animals
Since January, Garland Animal Services and Garland Police Department have collaborated to ensure individuals are held accountable for cruel treatment of animals.

Garland Animal Services has removed approximately 13 animals from cruelty cases, which have led to three arrests and two pending arrest warrants. One specific case that touched all our hearts involves a 4-month-old mixed breed dog named Captain. Watch how Garland Animal Services rescued Captain and gave him the opportunity for a loving, forever home.

Garland Animal Services is committed to stopping this cycle through the development of an Animal Cruelty Division within Garland Animal Services that will respond to abuse and cruelty cases. This new division will work in partnership with the Garland Police Department to use training and innovation to help bring perpetrators of animal cruelty to justice.   Learn more .
Garland Independent School District Announces Reopening Updates
For many of us, Garland ISD is a key part of the great Garland experience. The district recently released school reopening updates, informing families of a three-week restarting school transition period, two learning models, health and safety protocols, FAQs and more.

Due to a Dallas County order issued July 16, all Garland ISD students will attend school remotely Monday, Aug. 10, through Monday, Sept. 7, with no option for Face-to-Face Learning. Families will still choose either Remote Learning or Face-to-Face Learning for their students via a Commitment Form due Thursday, July 23. Those who select the Face-to-Face option will begin attending classes on campus Tuesday, Sept. 8. The district will also debut  new school hours  on the first day of classes Monday, Aug. 10. All back-to-school forms are now available and must be completed online via Skyward Family Access. For further details, visit  GarlandISD.net/GISDreopens .

Sidewalk Repair Incentive Program
The City of Garland has upped the incentive for homeowners to fix deteriorating sidewalks.

Garland offers three new reductions to supplement its established 50-50 share of sidewalk reconstruction costs. A property owner who qualifies in all three categories may now bear as little as 10 percent of the cost of fixing their sidewalk.

Learn more about qualifications at GarlandTX.gov

If you have questions about the matching grant program, call 972-205-2930. City staff will then determine what work is eligible and the estimated cost.
