Ayako Schuster Named Garland’s Economic Development Director
The City of Garland has named Ayako Schuster to lead the City’s Economic Development Department, focusing on bringing new development and fresh redevelopment partnerships to the community.

Ayako’s career in economic development began in 2000, when she joined the Garland Economic Development Partnership and Garland Chamber of Commerce as an intern. She proved herself through a progression of responsibilities and successes, moving to the City of Garland Economic Development Department in 2015. She has served as the Business Development Manager and is honored to continue to serve Garland in her new role.

Summer Nutrition Program Ends Friday

The Summer Nutrition Program will finish its 2021 program Friday, July 30.

Meals for children ages 1 to 18 will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays through Friday.

Summer Reading Program Ends Saturday

The Nicholson Memorial Library System's 2021 Summer Reading Program will end Saturday, July 31.

Updated Garland Pools Schedule
Bradfield Pool closed the 2021 pool season today.

Holford Pool will remain open through Sunday, Aug. 1, and Surf and Swim will remain open on weekends through Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6.
Operating hours and more information can be found on the Garland Aquatics website. Wynne Pool remains closed due to winter storm damage.
Garland Firefighters Make Their Mark in Surfside, Florida, and at Home
Garland firefighters were recently recognized for responding to a call for help in Surfside, Florida, the site of the condo building collapse.

They were there to provide mutual aid of a different kind: mental health peer support. This isn't the first time they have stepped in to assist their fellow firefighters. It's another example of how they Make Their Mark in Garland.

Be a Part of the 75th Annual Labor Day Parade
The 75th annual Labor Day parade and festivities, presented by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, will take place Monday, Sept. 6.

The parade will begin at 9 a.m. followed by the car show and karaoke contest. Submit your parade entry today!

Plan Commission
July 26
The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.

COVID-19 Updates
As of Monday, July 19, the Garland Health Department has received reports of 293 active cases out of 28,924 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 451 deaths. The City updates its posted case numbers each Monday.

The City of Garland and its community partners are facilitating access to recovery programs for Garland residents who have been impacted by COVID-19. Assistance is available for a variety of services, including financial assistance for housing, utilities, food and medical expenses, as well as workforce training and job placement services, and counseling and emergency shelter assistance.
Fight the Bite
The City of Garland reminds residents to protect themselves against mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile Virus by limiting outdoor activity during evening and early morning hours and wearing light-colored, long-sleeve clothing while outdoors. Remember also to eliminate any standing water on your property as this is where mosquitoes lay eggs. Learn more at GarlandTX.gov.
