District 3 Runoff Results
Ed Moore was elected as the new representative for District 3.

In District 3, no candidate received more than half of the votes cast in the May 1 General Election. A runoff between the two candidates receiving the largest number of votes took place June 5.

The election results will be canvassed at a special meeting of the Garland City Council at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 15.
Updated COVID-19 Recovery Resources
The City of Garland and other community partners are facilitating access to various recovery programs for residents who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020, for death related to the coronavirus.

Rental assistance is available through Catholic Charities of Dallas. You can check your eligibility and apply for this assistance online or contact a case manager for assistance by calling 214-257-0674. One-on-one meetings can be scheduled, as needed, between noon and 4 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at Garland's Central Library, 625 Austin St.

Summer Nutrition Program Begins Tomorrow
The City of Garland has proudly supported the Summer Nutrition Program for more than 20 years and wants to ensure the youth in the community continue to receive a meal during the summer break.

CitySquare, an advocacy organization that works to fight poverty in the community, will oversee the 2021 program. The program provides free meals for children ages 1 to 18, Monday through Friday, June 14 to July 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Celebrate Thirsty Third Thursdays in Downtown Garland from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 17.

Free Classic Movie at the Plaza Theatre
View a screening of the 1947 classic "Life with Father" at 7 p.m. Friday, June 18, at the Plaza Theatre, 521 W. State St.
A strait-laced turn-of-the-century father presides over a family of boys and the mother who really rules the roost in this comedy starring William Powell, Irene Dunne and Elizabeth Taylor.
Admission is first-come, first-served general admission. No tickets are required.
Fight the Bite
The City of Garland reminds residents to protect themselves against mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile Virus by limiting outdoor activity during evening and early morning hours and wearing light-colored, long-sleeve clothing while outdoors.

Remember also to eliminate any standing water on your property as this is where mosquitoes lay eggs.

COVID-19 Updates
As of Monday, June 7, the Garland Health Department has received reports of 149 active cases out of 28,344 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 445 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each Monday.

City Council Special Session
June 15
District 3 Council Member Ed Moore will be sworn in during a special Council Session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 15.
