District 5 Runoff Election Results
As no candidate for City Council District 5 received a majority of votes in the May 7 general election, a runoff between the top two finishers was held Saturday, June 18.

Margaret A. Lucht and Jon Dehn were running for a two-year City Council term. Only residents of District 5 were eligible to vote in the runoff.

The election results will be certified at a special meeting of the Garland City Council on Tuesday, June 28.
STEAM Lab at the Library
Children ages 6 through 12 and their families can participate in this month's STEAM Lab at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, at the Central Library, 625 Austin St.

Each monthly STEAM Lab consists of stations featuring activities on a centralized theme. This month's theme is "Summer." Attendees may take home any project they complete at the events. No registration is required to attend.

Instructions for the activities will be available in Spanish and English. A bilingual staff member will be on hand to assist patrons with the activities.

Sounds of Summer Concert Series Moves to Winters Park Thursday, June 23

Garland’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series continues at Winters Park Amphitheatre, 1330 Spring Creek Drive. The second half of our series kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23, with Brodie Lane featuring Al Vellejo and Zac Wilkerson.

Along with presenting partner Veritex Bank and artist sponsor Jimmy Wallace Guitars, the City is proud to feature touring on-the-rise artists and lively entertainers who are sure to blow you away with talent and get you dancing. View the full lineup at VisitGarlandTX.com.

Band Together on the Square Concert Series Continues Friday, June 24

Downtown Garland has a diverse musical experience that will go great with your carefree summer vibe.

Garland Summer Musicals Continues Friday, June 24
Garland Summer Musicals opens its 2022 season with the Broadway and film hit "42nd Street."
Performances will take place Friday through Sunday, June 24-26, at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St. Get full details at GarlandArts.com.

Paper Shredding Event Saturday, June 25
Join us for a free paper shredding event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Residential Recycling Center, 1426 Commerce St.

Shred up to two boxes per customer! Please remove binder clips and other non-paper items. Proof of Garland residency, such as a utility bill, is required.

Free Basketball Clinic with the Texas Legends Tuesday, June 28
The Garland Water Utilities Department and the North Texas Municipal Water District will host a free basketball STEM clinic at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Granger Recreation Center, 1310 W. Avenue F.

This innovative program brings science and sports together to teach kids ages 6 through 12 about the importance of water conservation. They'll enjoy an afternoon of science, basketball and fun with professional basketball players from the Texas Legends! 

Garland Earns Statewide Awards for Excellence in Communications
The City of Garland’s award-winning Public & Media Relations Department has added more trophies to its display case.

Garland earned the following awards from the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO):

The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, June 20. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.
