District 5 Runoff Election Results
Margaret A. Lucht was elected to the District 5 City Council seat in a June 18 runoff.

The election results will be certified at a special meeting of the Garland City Council and Lucht will take the oath of office on Tuesday, June 28.

No candidate for City Council District 5 received a majority of votes in the May 7 general election, forcing a runoff between the top two finishers.
Downtown Construction Update: Main Street Reopens, Parking Available
Construction on the Downtown Square is progressing to Phase 2! Main Street has just reopened, with construction moving to State Street. 

State Street between Sixth and Fifth streets, including the entire intersection at Fifth Street, is scheduled to close Monday, June 27. The businesses will remain open and so will the adjacent sidewalks. This section of State Street will be closed for approximately five to six months as construction continues. State Street between Sixth and Seventh streets remains closed to through traffic for the next couple of weeks, but parking is available. Learn more at GarlandTX.gov.

Band Together on the Square Concert Series Continues Friday, July 1

Sounds of Summer Concert Series Moves to Winters Park Thursday, July 7

Garland’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series continues at Winters Park Amphitheatre, 1330 Spring Creek Drive. The concert kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 7, with Dylan Wheeler and Mike & The Moonpies.

Along with presenting partner Veritex Bank and artist sponsor Jimmy Wallace Guitars, the City is proud to feature touring on-the-rise artists and lively entertainers who are sure to blow you away with talent and get you dancing. View the full lineup at VisitGarlandTX.com.

Free Basketball Clinic with the Texas Legends Tuesday, June 28
The Garland Water Utilities Department and the North Texas Municipal Water District will host a free basketball STEM clinic at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at Granger Recreation Center, 1310 W. Avenue F.

This innovative program brings science and sports together to teach kids ages 6 through 12 about the importance of water conservation. They'll enjoy an afternoon of science, basketball and fun with professional basketball players from the Texas Legends! 

City Holiday Hours and Services: Monday,
July 4
In observance of Independence Day, all City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries, recreation centers and senior centers will be closed Monday, July 4.

On Monday, July 4, Bradford and Holford pools will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Surf and Swim will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Firewheel Golf Park will remain open Monday, July 4, but the Bridges Course will close at 2 p.m.

The Charles M. Hinton Jr. Regional Landfill will be closed Monday, July 4. There will be no disruption to trash or recycling collection. To view your pickup schedule, visit GarlandSanitation.com.

All City facilities will reopen with normal business hours Tuesday, July 5.
Buckingham Road Construction to Begin
Beginning Monday, June 27, the City will begin various concrete pavement repairs on Buckingham Road from Shiloh Road to Sam Houston Drive. Construction is expected to last at least four weeks, weather permitting.
 
Once construction starts, access to the street will be limited. Businesses along Buckingham Road will be accessible. Please expect traffic delays and seek alternate travel routes.

Utility Bill Assistance Available
If you are having difficulty paying your utility bill, the City has several resources to help you.

You may qualify for a payment arrangement that allows you to extend the due date of your current bill. Call 972-205-2671 or email customer service.

There is help available through the City of Garland Customer Assistance Program. This program is a partnership between the City and local service agencies. The funds are administered and distributed to qualified customers by these agencies to those experiencing financial hardships. Learn more at GarlandTX.gov.

The Garland Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, June 27, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

City Council Meeting
June 28
District 5 Council Member Margaret Lucht will be sworn in during a special Council Session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28.

Graduation Traffic Delay
June 29
The Curtis Culwell Center will host its final graduation of the season at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 29. Naaman Forest Boulevard will experience traffic congestion, so expect traffic delays in the area.
