Early Voting for District 5 Runoff Begins Tomorrow
As no candidate for City Council District 5 received a majority of votes in the May 7 general election, there will be a runoff between the top two finishers on Saturday, June 18. Only residents of District 5 are eligible to vote in the runoff.

Early voting will take place Monday, June 6, through Tuesday, June 14, with polling hours as follows: 
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 6-10
  • 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 11
  • noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 12
  • 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 13-14

On election day, Saturday June 18, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Margaret A. Lucht and Jon Dehn are running for a two-year City Council term.
District 5 Garland residents may vote at any polling place in Dallas County during early voting and on election day. To see vote center locations, visit DallasCountyVotes.org.
New Customer Service Portal Coming Soon
The Customer Service Department will soon introduce a new customer account web portal.

When the new system is launched, City of Garland utility customers who use the existing web-based tool will be required to create a new username and password.

The new portal will provide additional utility billing detail, customer account information, options to make a payment and many new features that will enhance users' online experience.

Manufacturing Victory: The Arsenal of Democracy Exhibit Opens Tomorrow
Manufacturing Victory: The Arsenal of Democracy tells the inspiring story of the homefront effort that produced tanks, planes, ships and guns with staggering speed and unparalleled energy during World War II.

The 1,500-square-foot exhibit includes compelling artifacts, photographs, oral histories and interactive audio/video components that immerse the visitor in the story of America’s mighty industrial war engine. The exhibit debuted at The National WWII Museum in 2014 before embarking on a national tour. Garland will be the only Texas city to host the exhibit in 2022.

The exhibit will be at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St., beginning tomorrow, June 6, through Friday, Aug. 12, during the following times:
  • 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays
  • 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays
  • 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays

Sounds of Summer Concert Series Continues Thursday, June 9

Garland’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series continues with Ally Venable at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 9, at Audubon Park.

Along with presenting partner Veritex Bank and artist sponsor Jimmy Wallace Guitars, the City is proud to feature touring on-the-rise artists and lively entertainers who are sure to blow you away with talent and get you dancing. View the full lineup at VisitGarlandTX.com.

This will be the final concert at Audubon Park, 342 W. Oates Road. Beginning June 23, the Sounds of Summer moves to the Winters Park Amphitheatre located at 1330 Spring Creek Drive. The concerts are FREE! Bring the family, grab a bite from on-site food vendors and let the kids challenge each other in the activity area.
Band Together on the Square Concert Series Continues Friday, June 10

Downtown Garland has a diverse musical experience that will go great with your carefree summer vibe.

Join us every Friday evening from May through September for one of the best concert series of the summer!

Summer Reading Program Begins June 11
Whether you are a kid, teen or adult, you can participate in this year's summer reading program for your age group. In addition to the pleasure you receive from reading a good book, you may also earn prizes! Register online or at any Garland library beginning Saturday, June 11.

Participants can choose to use Beanstack (online or through the Beanstack app) or visit any Garland library for a paper Oceans of Possibilities activity card.

Garland Proudly Hosts Inaugural Juneteenth Event
Garland will proudly host its inaugural Juneteenth event from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at Audubon Park, 550 W. Oates Road.

There will be something for everyone at the family festival, including an opportunity to learn about the historical significance of this federally recognized holiday. We’ll have dancers, children’s activities, speakers, a performance from the Buster Brown Band, an essay contest, vendors … and lots of canopy, including a shaded picnic pavilion, to offset the Texas sun!

Food trucks will be on-site, or you can bring a pre-packed picnic basket. No open flames or grilling will be allowed in the park. Learn more.
Select GP&L’s Green Choice Power Plan
Garland Power & Light customers can go green by signing up for Green Choice, a power plan that provides 100% renewable energy from Texas wind and solar resources.

GP&L’s Green Choice only costs a penny more per kilowatt-hour than GP&L’s regular rate. Both rates are very competitive as compared to plans in the Oncor delivery area. A minimum 12-month commitment is required for Green Choice.

June 6 and 7
The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, June 6. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

All upcoming Boards & Commissions meetings can be found on the Public Meetings calendar at GarlandTX.gov.

In-person meetings have resumed, but you can continue to watch the meetings online.

Graduation Traffic Delays
Through June 29
High school and college graduations will take place at the Curtis Culwell Center through Wednesday, June 29. Naaman Forest Boulevard will experience traffic congestion during the graduations, so expect traffic delays in the area.
