Make Your Mark: Hat Capital of the World
Make Your Mark is about the people of Garland. It's about neighbors, communities, businesses, big and small, that have made Garland into the great city we call home. 

Did you know hats worn by famous cowboys, celebrities and even Presidents were made right here in Garland?  Saul Garza  takes a look at the history of the hat industry in Garland and how it's making it's mark on the world.
Lawn Care Assistance Available
The City of Garland Code Compliance Department is now taking applications for the Lawn Care Assistance Program. This program provides summer mowing for seniors 60 years of age and older and disabled Garland homeowners who are physically and/or financially unable to maintain their yards to comply with City codes and have no other assistance available.
 
Applications may be picked up at the Code Compliance temporary office location, 222 Carver St., Building 1. Residents who are unable to pick up an application may call 972-485-6400 and request that an application be mailed. All applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Neighborhood Leader Meet & Greet
Mark your calendar for the next Neighborhood Leaders Meet & Greet, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St.

Hear City updates, network with other neighborhood leaders and learn of possible opportunities for your neighborhood.

D.I.Y. Home Irrigation Class March 28
Understanding your home sprinkler system can green up your grass and your wallet! 

Attend the D.I.Y. Home Irrigation Class at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the Garland Greenhouse, 1221 Spring Creek Drive, to learn the basics of watering in our hard clay soil. We'll also cover super easy repairs and drip irrigation.
 
This is a hands-on learning experience for even the most novice of homeowners.

Water Maintenance in Progress
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) will conduct its annual chlorine maintenance process on our water system from March 4 through April 1.

During this time, customers may notice a stronger taste or smell of chlorine. It is important to note that the quality of our drinking water remains safe for all uses, including drinking.

A Community Conversation
April 6
The City of Garland Community Multicultural Commission invites you to A Community Conversation from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 6, at the Goldie Locke Community Room in the Charles E. Duckworth Building, 217 N. Fifth St. Topics will include the bond package, local election, 2020 census, voter registration and more.

May 4 General Election Information
Garland voters will have many items to consider in the May 4 General Election. Voters will elect a mayor and City Council representatives for districts 3, 6, 7 and 8. Voters also will consider eight bond propositions. For more information about City elections, visit the City Secretary's web page.
