2019 Bond Informational Meetings
City of Garland officials will host four public meetings to help Garland residents learn more about the 2019 Bond Referendum proposals voters will consider in the May 4 election.

The public meetings are scheduled as follows:
  • Thursday, April 11 - 6 p.m. at Audubon Recreation Center, 342 W. Oates Road
  • Saturday, April 13 - 2 p.m. at North Garland Branch Library, 3845 N. Garland Ave.
  • Thursday, April 18 - 6 p.m. at Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St.
  • Saturday, April 20 - 2 p.m. at Garland City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.
Each session will include a presentation and the opportunity for residents to ask questions. Learn more.
Mark Your Calendar for Saturday, April 13!
Save the date for two great events! Celebrate Earth Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then head to Garland's Heritage Celebration beginning at 4 p.m. There's plenty of time to attend both of these fun, free events with the whole family!
Earth Day Celebration
Join GoGreenGarland from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Garland's Recycling Center, 1426 Commerce St.
Experience nature through animal encounters and wildflower planting, get a flush of adrenaline at the toilet races, enjoy live music, recycle your unwanted electronics for free, and so much more at the City's celebration! 

There is also a Keep Garland Beautiful Spring Trash-Off happening at 8 a.m. and eco-friendly recycling competitions. Learn more.
Garland Heritage Celebration
Celebrate Garland's arts history from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the sixth annual  Garland Heritage Celebration on the historic Downtown Square.
The public is invited to enjoy live music, a scavenger hunt, bounce houses, mechanical bull rides, food vendors and much more.
Premiering at this year's Heritage Celebration is the Landmark Museum's newest exhibit, Garland Arts, which tells of Garland's rich and varied arts history that began in the late 1800s.
Skatepark Design Workshop April 9  
Be a part of creating Garland's modern concrete skatepark! 

Learn about this exciting community project and contribute your ideas for the facility's design at the Skatepark Design Workshop, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Audubon Recreation Center, 342 W. Oates Road.

Garland Planner Appointed to National Committee
Garland Comprehensive Planning Administrator Angela Self, has been appointed to serve on the Housing & Community Development Division of the American Planning Association.
The Housing and Community Development Division is one of the member-led groups that helps provide guidance to the association to ensure it is addressing the needs of its members and the planning profession.  Learn more .
Lawn Care Assistance Available
The City of Garland Code Compliance Department is now taking applications for the Lawn Care Assistance Program. This program provides summer mowing for seniors 60 years of age and older and disabled Garland homeowners who are physically and/or financially unable to maintain their yards to comply with City codes and have no other assistance available.
Applications may be picked up at the Code Compliance temporary office location, 222 Carver St., Building 1. Residents who are unable to pick up an application may call 972-485-6400 and request that an application be mailed. All applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. School Crossing Guards Needed
Do you want to earn extra income working only two hours per day and making a difference in your community?
The City of Garland Transportation Department is recruiting candidates interested in the flexibility of working part-time as a school crossing guard, keeping students and neighbors safe as they walk to and from school. The hours are from 7 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. on school days at designated crosswalks.

A Community Conversation
April 6
The City of Garland Community Multicultural Commission invites you to A Community Conversation from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 6, at the Goldie Locke Community Room in the Charles E. Duckworth Building, 217 N. Fifth St. Topics will include the bond package, local election, 2020 census, voter registration and more. For more information, contact

May 4 General Election Information
Garland voters will have many items to consider in the May 4 General Election. Voters will elect a mayor and City Council representatives for districts 3, 6, 7 and 8. Voters also will consider eight bond propositions. For more information about City elections, visit the City Secretary's web page.
