City Holiday Hours and Services: Memorial Day
In observance of Memorial Day, all City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries, recreation centers and senior centers will be closed Monday, May 31.

Trash, recycling, and brush and bulky items will be collected on their regular Tuesday-Friday schedules.

City pools will remain closed. Due to a water main break, Surf and Swim will not open Memorial Day weekend and the official opening will be delayed.

Firewheel Golf Park will remain open and operate its usual hours.
District 3 Runoff Voting Information
In District 3, no candidate received more than half of the votes cast in the May 1 General Election. There will be a runoff between the two candidates receiving the largest number of votes: Ed Moore and PC Mathew.

The runoff date is Saturday, June 5, with early voting through Tuesday, June 1. Only residents of District 3 can vote in the runoff.

Early voting is available at South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd., and Dallas College-Garland Campus, 675 W. Walnut St. Voters can vote at any location in Dallas County on Saturday, June 5.

Summer Reading Program Registration Begins Today
Whether you are a kid, teen or adult, you can participate in this year's summer reading program for your age group. In addition to the pleasure you receive from reading a good book, you may also earn prizes!

Participants can choose to use Beanstack (online or through the Beanstack app) or visit any Garland Library for a paper Tails and Tales activity card.

Made Fresh & Local: Live at the Square
Experience a laid-back, relaxing evening in beautiful Downtown Garland while soaking in the soothing sounds of jazz, Motown, R&B and classic country!

This free music series will be fun for the whole family. Bring your chairs, blankets and your dancing shoes! Don't forget to grab some grub from a variety of Downtown "foodie" locations. Our diverse local food scene includes BBQ, Tex-Mex, Thai food, seafood, pizza, burgers and ice cream.

While we are excited to bring you live music, we encourage you to social distance from others outside of your immediate group. We will also have hand sanitizer available.

COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 156 active cases out of 28,252 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 445 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

Student Vaccination Clinic Saturday, June 5
Garland Independent School District and the Garland Health Department will offer free Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for students age 12 and older at a drive-thru clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 5, at the Garland Fire Administration Building, 1500 State Highway 66.

Students can receive their first dose of the vaccine at this event. Second doses will be available approximately three weeks later.

A legal guardian must be present at the event. Print and complete the City of Garland COVID Vaccine Registration Form (PDF) and bring it with you to the event.
Updated COVID-19 Recovery Resources
The City of Garland and other community partners are facilitating access to various recovery programs for residents who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing financial assistance for funeral expenses incurred after Jan. 20, 2020, for death related to the coronavirus.

Rental assistance is available through Catholic Charities of Dallas. You can check your eligibility and apply for this assistance online or contact a case manager for assistance by calling 214-257-0674. One-on-one meetings can be scheduled, as needed, between noon and 4 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at Garland's Central Library, 625 Austin St.

Due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, the meetings will be virtual. You can watch the meetings online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.

DARTzoom Bus Network Redesign Facebook Live Event
June 2
Join Dallas Area Rapid Transit at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, for its second Facebook Live event in the "On the Menu: DARTzoom Bus Network Redesign" series. DART Police officers will join the panel.

Texas Municipal Power Agency Board Appointment Application Deadline
June 4
City Council is accepting applications for a Texas Municipal Power Agency Board appointment through Friday, June 4. The term starts July 18 and runs through July 18, 2023. To qualify for the position, an applicant must reside in Garland. Applications should include a letter of interest and a resume. Application forms can be found on the City Secretary's page at GarlandTX.gov. They can be submitted to René Dowl, City Secretary, by email to RDowl@GarlandTX.gov or by mail to City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St., Garland 75040.

Graduation Traffic Delays
Through June 26
High school and college graduations will take place at the Curtis Culwell Center through June 26. Naaman Forest Boulevard will experience traffic congestion during the graduations, so expect traffic delays in the area. Garland Youth Council Accepting Applications Through Friday, June 4
Interested Garland residents who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2021-22 school year are eligible to apply to serve on the Garland Youth Council. Learn more and download an application on the Garland Youth Council page at GarlandTX.gov. Email GYC@GarlandTX.gov with any questions.
