The Garland Health Department has received reports of 817 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents, as well as 19 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon after 2 p.m.

The Garland City Council continues to work with staff to formulate a safe and compassionate response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The status of various City functions and a timeline of anticipated reopenings is updated on the City Service Updates page.

Assistance and Other Resources
Several  rent and mortgage assistance programs  related to COVID-19 are being prepared in conjunction with federal guidelines, as well as medical, counseling and other forms of assistance. The first programs will be available Monday, June 1, with additional programs coming online in the following weeks. Learn more.
Apply Now for Boards and Commissions
Do you want to make a difference in your City? The Garland City Council is currently accepting applications to the following through Tuesday, June 2:
  • Texas Municipal Power Agency Board Appointment: The term starts July 18 and runs through July 18, 2022. To qualify for the position, an applicant must reside in Garland. Applications should include a letter of interest and a resume.
  • Dallas Area Rapid Transit Board Appointment: The two-year term runs through June 30, 2022.

PAID Program Lets You Help Neighbors with Utility Bills
Looking for a way to help your neighbors during these challenging times? You can help with their utility bills by contributing to Provide Aid in Dollars (PAID) . The option to contribute is available on your utility bill. Funds are distributed through the Salvation Army to economically challenged families.

The City of Garland is working with its utilities customers during these difficult times. Although we are not currently disconnecting for non-payment, we anticipate resuming collection-related activities on or about June 15. 

We strongly encourage customers to contact Utility Customer Service at 972-205-2671 or  CustServ@GarlandTX.gov  to discuss their situation and how we may be able to assist. The Street Department Is Ready to Serve
Work on Street Department projects resumed May 18. By encouraging social distancing whenever possible, taking temperatures every morning and wearing City-provided personal protective equipment, the Street Department is doing all it can to ensure work is being completed in the safest way possible.

Garland Youth Council Accepting Applications Through Friday, June 5
Interested Garland residents who will be in grades 9-12 during the 2020-21 school year are eligible to apply to serve on the Garland Youth Council.

Garland Animal Services is still open to the public. Please call 972-205-3570 to make an appointment before entering the shelter.

Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, June 1; Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. 

Due to COVID-19 public gathering restrictions, the meetings will be virtual.  You can watch the meeting online. The virtual meeting link will be included in the individual meeting agenda. You may participate by telephone. Dial-in numbers will be posted with the virtual meeting information.
