The City of Garland held a general election May 7 to elect City Council members for Districts 2 and 5.

Visit the Dallas County Elections Department website to view the official results. 

The election results will be certified at the regular meeting of the Garland City Council on Tuesday, May 17.
Sounds of Summer Concert Series Kicks Off Thursday, Announces Surprise Artist
Garland’s Sounds of Summer Concert Series returns at 7 p.m. this Thursday at Audubon Park with Grady Spencer and The Work, along with special guests Jimmy Wallace and Rachel Stacy!

We are thrilled to announce our surprise artist has moved up his date to join us Thursday, May 26. We are excited to welcome Grammy-winning artist Christone "Kingfish" Ingram in just a few short weeks!

The first three concerts are at Audubon Park, 342 W. Oates Road. Beginning June 23, the Sounds of Summer moves to the Winters Park Amphitheatre located at 1330 Spring Creek Drive. The concerts are FREE! Band Together on the Square Concert Series Continues Friday, May 13
Downtown Garland has a diverse musical experience that will go great with your carefree summer vibe.

Join us every Friday evening from May through September for one of the best concert series of the summer!

Duck Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant Continues Award Winning Streak
Garland’s Duck Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant recently received the George W. Burke, Jr. Facility Safety Award at the 2022 Texas Water Awards Program ceremony in San Antonio. The award is presented by the Water Environment Federation and recognizes municipal and industrial wastewater facilities for active and effective safety programs. The treatment plant won the award in 2018 and 2021 as well.

The treatment plant is a 24/7, 365 days a year operation. Since 2019, it has maintained a perfect safety record -- 980 days without a lost time accident. The plant's record is 1,755 days. Learn more.
Construction Work to Begin on Forest Lane Railroad Crossing
On Monday, May 9, the City will start construction on both sides of the Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad, Inc., railroad crossing on Forest Lane between Kirby Street and International Road.

Various lanes of the roadway will be closed throughout the repair. Construction should be completed within four to six weeks, weather permitting.

Please expect traffic delays and seek alternate travel routes to avoid this work zone. If you have questions, email Street@GarlandTX.gov.

Free Movie at the Plaza Theatre Saturday, May 14

Garland Summer Musicals Tickets Now Available

Get your tickets now for Garland Summer Musicals' presentations of "42nd Street" and "Legally Blonde: The Musical."

Performances of "42nd Street" will take place Fridays through Sundays, June 17-19 and 24-26, and "Legally Blonde: The Musical" will run Fridays through Sundays, July 22-24 and 29-31.

Adult Book Club at South Garland Library Thursday, May 19
Adults ages 18 and older are invited to join the library’s book club. The next meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

Library staff and attendees will discuss "The Giver of Stars" by Jojo Moyes and enjoy light refreshments. No registration is required to attend book club. For more information, call 972-205-3931.

The Garland Plan Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

Graduation Traffic Delays
Through June 29
High school and college graduations will take place at the Curtis Culwell Center through Wednesday, June 29. Naaman Forest Boulevard will experience traffic congestion during the graduations, so expect traffic delays in the area.
