Election Day Is Tuesday, Nov. 3
This Tuesday, Nov. 3, voters will go to the polls for City elections, as well as federal, state, county and school district elections.

Also on the ballot is a proposal to utilize park land adjacent to Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St., as the site for relocation of the Walnut Creek Branch Library.

Garland residents can vote at any Dallas County Vote Center from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The North and South Garland Branch Libraries and the Bradfield and Granger Recreation Centers will be closed Nov. 3 to serve as Election Day polling places. All other Garland libraries and recreation centers will remain open for normal business hours.

2020 Neighborhood Summit: Neighborhood Values, Home Values
You are invited to attend the 2020 Neighborhood Summit from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. At this free virtual conference, you'll learn how you can invest in your home and neighborhood both socially and aesthetically.

Topics will include establishing your neighborhood values, building a neighborhood network, how to preserve or increase your home value, and do-it-yourself home improvement tips from experts.

As a bonus, you'll hear how neighborhood leaders have navigated these crazy times. Residents from Garland, Plano, Rowlett and surrounding communities are welcome to attend. Register now!
Applications for District 1 City Council Member Temporary Replacement Due Friday, Nov. 20
Due to a recent resignation of the council member for District 1, the City Council may appoint a resident of District 1 to serve in an interim capacity pending an election in May 2021.

While the City awaits word from Gov. Abbott as to whether he will order an special emergency election, the City Council is requesting applications from qualified residents of District 1 who are interested in serving in that interim capacity.

Dia De Los Muertos - A Garland Story

While we cannot host our traditional Dia De Los Muertos celebration, the City of Garland, Garland Association for Hispanic Affairs, Garland Independent School District, and International Leadership of Texas - Garland have teamed up to bring you "Dia De Los Muertos - A Garland Story."

During this program, we will celebrate the history and purpose of the event here in Garland. Streaming will start at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, on Facebook and on YouTube @PlayGarland.

Made Fresh & Local: A Garland Christmas

While we cannot gather together to celebrate this year, the City of Garland is pleased to bring you a special treat for the holiday season, “Made Fresh & Local: A Garland Christmas.” This holiday season we will feature virtual programs streaming on three different evenings for the whole family to enjoy.

The 2020 Christmas on the Square Tree Lighting Ceremony will not take place. You can view the streaming programs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, and on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, along with an encore presentation on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Learn more.
Garland Emergency Residential Assistance Program
The City of Garland has partnered with Catholic Charities of Dallas Inc. to provide emergency mortgage and rental assistance to City of Garland residents impacted by COVID-19. The deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 13.

Catholic Charities Inc. is processing applications on a first-come, first-served basis. While we are committed to processing as many applications as we have funding for, we do anticipate a high demand. Learn more.

COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 1,407 active cases out of 8,894 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 76 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

City Council Meetings
Nov. 9 and 10
Due to Election Day, the Garland City Council has postponed its regularly scheduled meetings.
Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10.

District 3 Town Hall
Nov. 19
Join District 3 Council Member Jerry Nickerson for a Town Hall at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St. Topics will include a community update from the Garland Police Department, the My Possibilities development, an update on local street projects plus the work on Interstates 30 and 635, and an update on the May 2019 bond program, including parks.
