Rick Oden Park Master Plan and Skatepark Plan
Speak directly with your elected and appointed officials about the proposed plans for Rick Oden Park and the Skatepark at two upcoming City Council meetings

Both meetings will take place at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.

Trails and Bikeways Master Plan
The City needs you to take an online survey to help develop the plan for Garland's future trails and bikeways.

Protect Your Pipes and Plumbing in Freezing Temperatures
Winter weather has arrived early this year. Keeping an eye on the weather forecast and protecting your pipes can save you a lot of trouble and unnecessary costs for plumbing repairs.
 
When temperatures are expected to drop below freezing, remember to drip your faucets, open cabinets under sinks, and cover or wrap outside pipes and spigots.

Turkey Palooza Thursday, Nov. 14
How do you safely deep fry a Thanksgiving turkey? What are the  best tips for food handling and roasting as you prepare  that once-a-year feast? And what happens if there's  a grease fire in the kitchen? 

Learn all this and more from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Fire Administration building, 1500 State Highway 66.  Garland's Water and Fire  departments are partnering to help make yours the  most delicious and safe holiday season ever. Enjoy  delicious recipes and helpful tips for preparing the holiday bird, demonstrations on deep frying and carving the turkey, and learn how to use a fire extinguisher!

There will be door prizes and we'll top off the evening with turkey tasting!  This event is free but registration at GarlandWater.com is required.
Garland's Downtown Dine Around Lands Statewide Honors
For spreading the buzz about local eateries to 23,000 people on social media, Garland's Downtown Dine Around earned top honors from the Texas Downtown Association.

The Dine Around landed the People's Choice Award at the association's 2019 President's Awards, celebrated Oct. 30 in Georgetown, Texas. Garland voters helped land the honor by going to the association's Facebook page to show full support for the Dine Around, an event in which food bloggers toured five downtown restaurants.

The Dine Around was also a finalist for the state association's Best Promotional Event. The Dine Around was coordinated in conjunction with Tucker & Associates Public Relations. Learn more.
Free Screening of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Saturday, Nov. 16
Families can enjoy a free screening of 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at the South Garland Branch Library, 4845 Broadway Blvd.

Doors open 15 minutes prior to the events. Seating is limited. No registration is required, and all ages may attend these events. The movie is rated PG. Free popcorn and water are available while supplies last.

Lawn Care Assistance Available
The City of Garland Code Compliance Department is taking applications for the Lawn Care Assistance Program. This program will provide summer mowing for seniors (60 years of age and older) and disabled Garland homeowners who are physically and/or financially unable to maintain their yards to comply with City codes and have no other assistance available.
 
Applications may be picked up at the Code Compliance office, 210 Carver St., Suite 101. Residents who are unable to pick up an application may call 972-485-6400 and request that an application be mailed.  Application packets must be filled out completely and returned to Code Compliance along with required documents by March 2. All applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, visit GarlandTX.gov or call 972-485-6400. 
Discounted Rain Barrel Sale
For a limited time, the City of Garland Water Utilities Department is offering rain barrels at a discount.

A classic black 50-gallon Ivy Rain Barrel is just $69 (regular price is $129). Barrels must be ordered by 11 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, and must be picked up from Garland Water Operations, 2343 Forest Lane, between noon and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, or Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Plan Commission
Nov. 11
The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St. View agendas at GarlandTX.gov and be sure to click the "subscribe" button to receive notifications when meeting agendas are posted. 

Free Storm Recovery Classes
Nov. 16
Richland College will offer tuition-free storm recovery classes from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. Topics will range from DIY home repairs to navigating the insurance process. Attendees may sign up for single sessions, multi-sessions, a half day or a full day.
