City Council Members Sworn In Nov. 17
Newly elected representatives for Garland City Council Districts 2, 4 and 5 have taken their oath of office. The Council canvassed the results of the City’s general election at its Nov. 17 meeting.
District 2 incumbent Deborah Morris and District 5 incumbent Rich Aubin both returned to the City Council. District 4 representative B.J. Williams has also returned after a one-term absence.

District 1 representative David Gibbons resigned to serve the City in another capacity and bid farewell during the meeting.

"It has been my distinct honor to serve the citizens of Garland and particularly the residents of District 1," said Gibbons. "I am continually humbled by the support that I received during my term on Council. It is a period of time that I will cherish forever. And I thank you."

Thanksgiving Holiday Hours and Services
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, all City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries and recreation centers will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26-27. Senior centers remain closed due to COVID-19. City facilities with Saturday hours will reopen Saturday, Nov. 28. All facilities will be back to normal schedules Monday, Nov. 30.

Garbage, recycling, and brush and bulky collection normally scheduled on Thursday will move to Friday, Nov. 27. The regular Friday collection schedule will move to Saturday, Nov. 28. Regular pickup schedules for all areas will resume Monday, Nov. 30. Find your pickup schedule at

Made Fresh & Local: A Garland Christmas
While we cannot gather together to celebrate this year, the City of Garland is pleased to bring you a special treat for the holiday season, “Made Fresh & Local: A Garland Christmas.” This holiday season we will feature virtual programs streaming on three different evenings for the whole family to enjoy.

A Christmas on the Square tree lighting ceremony will not take place in 2020. You can view the streaming programs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, and on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, along with an encore presentation on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Learn more.

Now is the time to get your vaccine for this year's flu season!

Flu shots are available at the Public Health Clinic from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for adults, children and seniors who are insured. Low-cost flu vaccines for uninsured children and adults are also available.

COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 2,689 active cases out of 11,295 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 95 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. 

DART Public Meetings
Dec. 3
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is currently in the process of updating its long-range Transit System Plan to meet the demands of the growing North Texas region and the changing transportation landscape. DART will host two virtual public meetings at noon and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, to discuss the Transit System Plan and gain valuable feedback from the public.
