Garland Emergency Residential and Business Assistance Program Deadline: Friday, Nov. 13
The City of Garland has partnered with Catholic Charities of Dallas Inc. to provide emergency mortgage and rental assistance to City of Garland residents impacted by COVID-19. The deadline to apply is Friday, Nov. 13.

Catholic Charities Inc. is processing applications on a first-come, first-served basis. While we are committed to processing as many applications as we have funding for, we do anticipate a high demand. Learn more.

City Election: Results Available Online
Garland voters cast their ballots during early voting and on Nov. 3 for City Council representatives for Districts 2, 4 and 5, and a proposition to relocate and expand the Walnut Creek Branch Library.

Garland voters decided to return District 2 incumbent Deborah Morris and District 5 incumbent Rich Aubin to the City Council. In District 4, B.J. Williams will return to the Council after a one-term absence.

Garland voters also decided to build the new Walnut Creek Branch Library next to Hollabaugh Recreation Center, 3925 W. Walnut St. The City is in the process of retaining a design firm for the library. Design could start in January with construction starting a year after.

Applications for District 1 City Council Member Temporary Replacement Due Friday, Nov. 20
Due to a recent resignation of the council member for District 1, the City Council may appoint a resident of District 1 to serve in an interim capacity pending an election in May 2021.

While the City awaits word from Gov. Abbott as to whether he will order an special emergency election, the City Council is requesting applications from qualified residents of District 1 who are interested in serving in that interim capacity.

Made Fresh & Local: A Garland Christmas
While we cannot gather together to celebrate this year, the City of Garland is pleased to bring you a special treat for the holiday season, “Made Fresh & Local: A Garland Christmas.” This holiday season we will feature virtual programs streaming on three different evenings for the whole family to enjoy.

The 2020 Christmas on the Square Tree Lighting Ceremony will not take place. You can view the streaming programs at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, and on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, along with an encore presentation on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Learn more.
Garland's Made Fresh & Local Concert Series Wins Texas Downtown Association President's Award
Made Fresh & Local: A Garland Experience, was named winner of Best Promotion Digital Campaign in the 2020 Texas Downtown Association President’s Awards Program.

Made Fresh & Local was created when the City’s Sounds of Summer live concerts were canceled
due to the pandemic. Local musician and artist duo Bobby and Jessica Orozco stepped in to create a virtual concert experience from Downtown Garland. Local businesses promoted the event and in turn further collaborated with the Orozcos. Learn more.
Fire Department Blood Drive Saturday, Nov. 28

Appointments are available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at the Garland Fire Department Administration parking lot, 1500 State Highway 66.

COVID-19 Updates
The Garland Health Department has received reports of 1,886 active cases out of 9,445 confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Garland residents since the beginning of the pandemic, as well as 82 deaths. The City will update its posted case numbers each afternoon.

City Council Meetings
Nov. 9 and 10
The Garland City Council Work Session will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. Regular Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10. The meetings were postponed due to Election Day.

Plan Commission
Nov. 9
The Garland Plan Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

District 3 Town Hall
Nov. 19
Join District 3 Council Member Jerry Nickerson for a Town Hall at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at The Atrium at the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St. Topics will include a community update from the Garland Police Department, the My Possibilities development, an update on local street projects plus the work on Interstates 30 and 635, and an update on the May 2019 bond program, including parks.
