Labor Day Parade, Festivities and City Services: Monday, Sept. 2 
The 74th annual Labor Day parade and festivities, presented by the Noon Exchange Club of Garland, will take place Monday, Sept. 2 in Downtown Garland. The parade begins at 9 a.m. followed by the car show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Visit NoonExchangeClubofGarland.com for more details.
 
In observance of Labor Day, all City of Garland offices, utility customer service and tax offices, libraries , recreation centers and senior centers  will be closed Monday, Sept. 2. See a full list of closures at GarlandTX.gov.

Water Scam Alert 
The City of Garland often receives reports about various companies offering free in-home water tests.

Garland Water Utilities Department works continuously to monitor and test our drinking water from the supplier pipeline all the way to the customer's tap. Residents should be wary of such offers.

Community Input Sought for Selection of New Animal Services Director 
The City of Garland is in the process of selecting a new Animal Services Director and values resident input as we select the right candidate for this important role for our community. 

Please complete the   Animal Services Director - Community Input Online Survey.  The top priorities identified from the survey will be used as part of the candidate selection process.  

Please submit your input by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6.

Preventing Conflict in Neighborhoods Class Thursday, Sept. 5
Join us for a free training focused on tools and tips to improve communication in order to help prevent conflict in neighborhoods.

The class, hosted by the Garland Neighborhood Management Academy, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the Main Street Municipal Building, 800 Main St.



Skatepark Design Workshop Tuesday, Sept. 10 
Be a part of creating Garland's modern concrete skatepark, which will be located at Rick Oden Park. 

Learn about this exciting community project and contribute your ideas for the facility's design at this come-and-go style meeting from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Granger Annex Building at Central Park, 1302 W. Avenue F.
Apply for Cultural Arts Grants Through Sept. 20
The Garland Cultural Arts Commission, Inc., announces its 2019-20 grant program for local arts groups, historic preservation organizations and other artistic entities.
 
Applications may be picked up at the Granville Arts Center Box Office, 300 N. Fifth St. in Downtown Garland. Applications will be available between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday through Sept. 19. Learn more.

City Council Meeting
Sept. 3
Due to the Labor Day holiday, Work Session and Regular Meeting will be combined Tuesday, Sept. 3. Work Session begins at 5:30 p.m. and Regular Meeting begins at 7 p.m.  Meetings are held on the first floor of City Hall, 200 N. Fifth St.  View agendas .

Community Update: Homelessness
Sept. 5
District 5 Council Member Rich Aubin will host a meeting to discuss changes the City has made to address its homeless population, including funds set aside in the 2019-20 budget. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 at  New Liberty Baptist Church, 333 W. Centerville Road . Garland Police Chief Jeff Bryan and Dallas County Commissioner Dr. Theresa Daniel will also participate.

Mayor's Evening In
Sept. 24
Mayor Scott LeMay will host an Evening In event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Mayor's Office, 200 N. Fifth St.  The Mayor's Evening In is your chance to get a one-on-one opportunity to visit with Mayor LeMay to discuss what's important to you.
