City Council Approves Award of Bond Projects
The Garland City Council approved the award of two 2019 Bond Program projects Sept. 3:
  • The architectural design and construction administration for the $12 million Animal Shelter
  • The construction and installation of LED lighting for the soccer fields at Winters Park awarded for $2 million; the work would start in November once the fall soccer season ends with plans for completion in February, in time for the spring season
Both projects were approved by Garland residents as part of the 2019 Bond Program in May.  Learn more.
After-Hours Code Compliance
Code Compliance has extended its operating hours to concentrate on parking issues in neighborhoods. 

Code Compliance is focusing on items such as parking on unimproved surfaces, parking vehicles across sidewalks, oversized and commercial vehicles, trailers on residential streets and illegal home businesses.

It's National Preparedness Month!
September is National Preparedness Month, and the City of Garland Office of Emergency Management is joining other national, state and local organizations, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in educating the public on how to prepare for disasters.

Garland Guzzler Saturday, Sept. 28

Flu Shots Available at Garland Public Health Clinic
The Garland Public Health Clinic, 206 Carver St., has received its first shipment of vaccine for the 2019-20 flu season. 

Flu shots are available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays for adults, children and seniors who are insured. Call 972-205-3370 for pricing and to learn what insurance plans are accepted.  The low-cost  flu vaccine for uninsured children 18 years and younger is not here yet, and will arrive in October.

GP&L Provides Reliable Electric Service
Garland Power & Light customers can count on reliable electric service. 

Beating national averages, GP&L reports an average of .3 interruptions annua lly per customer and an average outage duration of only 16 minutes. Nationally, these scores average .9  interruptions per customer and 63 minutes for length of outage.

Literacy for Life
Sept. 21
The Community Multicultural Commission will co-host the free Literacy for Life event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.  The event at the Curtis Culwell Center, 4999 Naaman Forest Blvd., will feature free food, prizes and giveaways for all ages. Learn more

Sept. 24
Mayor Scott LeMay will host an Evening In event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, in the Mayor's Office, 200 N. Fifth St.  The Mayor's Evening In is your chance to get a one-on-one opportunity to visit with Mayor LeMay to discuss what's important to you.
