Ribbon Cutting Held for Hole Shot Repair, LLC

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, to celebrate the opening of Hole Shot Repair, LLC at its new shop location at 7 East First Street, Loch Lynn Heights, Maryland. Local owners Zach Sweitzer and Derek Collins recently moved their small engine repair business out of their garage and into a brand-new shop. “You guys have really found a great niche here,” said Delegate Jim Hinebaugh. “With the County’s efforts to allow side-by-side and four-wheelers on the road, it’s nice to know there's someone local who can repair and service these vehicles. Ribbon Cutting Held for Black Hawk Coffee Company

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Garrett County Department of Business Development to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of Black Hawk Coffee Company in Oakland. Black Hawk Coffee Company is cultivating a passion for coffee and community one cup at a time. The menu includes iced and frozen drinks, hot drinks, alternatives like hot chocolate and tea, and a variety of baked goods. Patrons can enjoy the coffee shop’s cozy atmosphere or take their caffeine to-go thanks to Black Hawk’s convenient location at 225 East Oak Street in downtown Oakland, Maryland. Read more.

An awarded cheese variety is making its way to the aging caves of Murray’s Cheese. The chain has partnered with FireFly Farms, which is relaunching its award-winning Carpenter’s Wheel. The goat’s milk wheels will be aged in Murray’s Long Island City cheese caves. FireFly Creamery shapes and molds large wheels of pasteurized goat’s milk cheese before delivering to Murray’s, where the cheeses are aged for approximately six months. The wheels develop a unique natural rind and are labeled with the iconic and colorful barn quilt label—a clear reminder of the cheese’s Appalachian terroir. Learn more.

Administered by the Maryland Department of Commerce, the Maryland Nonprofit, Interest-Free, Micro Bridge Loan (NIMBL) supports the operations of nonprofit entities. The program provides short-term financing support to qualifying nonprofit entities between the award date of a government contract and the actual receipt date of those awarded funds. Nonprofits receiving NIMBL funding must be located in the State of Maryland and determined by the Internal Revenue Service to be exempt from taxation under Section 501(c) (3), (4), or (6) under the Internal Revenue Code. Small Business Cybersecurity Resilience in Maryland Program

The Maryland Department of Commerce was awarded Cybersecurity for Small Business Pilot Program funds from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The funds were used to create the Small business Cybersecurity Resilience in Maryland (SCRIM) program, which includes training and direct services for 40 small businesses to help them mitigate future cyber attacks through employee training and the installation of advanced hardware and software up to $10,000 per business. Application Deadline: November 30, 2023.
